Here is the latest update regarding the vessel
On Friday evening a government delegation visited the crew to ensure they were in good health and safe ahead of the expected storm. Prior to the visit, the salvage team removed all excess diesel from the vessel, retaining only the essential fuel required to operate the on-board generators. In preparation for the storm, certain compartments within the hull were ballasted with water to add weight and improve stability. The vessel is currently secured in five positions using ship anchors, as well as large tyres fastened with ropes and cables for additional reinforcement. Half of the crew disembarked yesterday. The remaining crew members will leave the vessel once weather conditions deteriorate to a point where it is no longer safe to be on board. Forecasts for Sunday 15 February, indicate ocean swells between 3 and 5 meters with winds expected to reach 70-80km/h

Here is the latest update on the ship. Authorities requested assistance to relocate two anchors approximately 150m from the stern of the vessel. The anchors had been buried in the sand and repositioning them enabled the crew to winch the ship further away from the rocks, where she had been in a dangerously close position. The operation was carried out during high tide to minimise the risk of damage to the hull. As a result, the ship was successfully moved an impressive 26m away from the rocks. In addition, the removal of diesel fuel from the vessel has begun. Trucks equipped with large containers are transporting the fuel away, and approximately 50% of the 170000 litres on board has already been removed

Dagsê Almal, ons reis SA toe was baie interresant!!
It took us 5 days of trying to move out of moz to SA. Online booking was a challenge to fly from Xai Xai airport to Maputo and then to Nelspruit by vehicle. No online checking was possible as the four of us arrived on a confirmed booking at the airport to only hear they are three flights behind schedule.
That ment flying only on monday, BUT friendly and helpful personnel at LAM airlines got us on four cancelled seats on the first flight. At 7:30 were landed at Maputo airport. Due to the uncertainty of the first flight it was difficult to book a vehicle to Nelspruit.
Every plan fell in place when the pickup of LP tours was on time and the journey to Nelspruit was smooth and comfortable. We can realy recommend “Luis Pauleta” for future traveling to and from any location in moz.
What a pleasant stay it was at PCL lodge. Always friendly and competent staff to assist and help were possible! Thanks to Fred and Anita for helping the challenge of booking flights and dropping us at Xai Xai airport in the early hours of the day.
The “skippie” is resting on the beach till hopefully being salvaged. They say maybe next spring tide….. Thanks for sharing our experience the last couple of days. It was an honour.

Naandsê Almal,
Wat n dag! We were asked by the authorities of the ship to help recover the anchor that broke off last night. It was the bow ancher weighing about 1.5t with a lenght of 80m heavy thick chain. It was buried 1.5m deep in the sand due to a strong current during nightfall. Digging and pulling 4hrs later the heavy piece of metal were in the shoreline. The reason for this was that the vesel was laying on the chain and therefore it broke off. The vesel contained a couple of serous dents on the starboard side but nothing to be worried about.
She is still bouncing around during high tide and the three remaining ropes and cable attached to a 2.5t piece of metal are doing there job. The easterly wind together with a strong current keeps the tension on the vesel at high risk of snapping and floating to the deeper. Time will teach everyone what not to do!! Three quotes have been submitted for the salvaging. The rumours of $400k are talked off. As long as they just take her away we will be grateful. Lekker slaap.

Hi All, the ship took a lot of hammering today with the wind and waves. Miraculously she survived all tides! Still resting in the same spot. Weather should be clearing up and the salvage project resume in the short future, alias the representative of the insurance company. See photos, greetings
