Barra, Mozambique, is like a little piece of paradise for me — a place where the ocean’s rhythm calms my heart and the vibrant underwater world leaves me breathless with awe. Just the other day, I went snorkeling and exploring during an unexpected break in my busy schedule. The fish were spectacular, bursts of color darting between coral, their beauty a sharp reminder of how magical this place is. Yet, my heart felt heavy, knowing that this December, none of my booked guests will experience this wonder alongside me.
Political unrest has cast a shadow over this season, and I understand the fears that come with it. But it’s heartbreaking to see tourists missing out, not only on Barra’s beauty but also on the unforgettable memories they could have made here.
This is my third December owning Venha Juntos Guest Homes, and as a coastal property, this is the most crucial time of the year. December funds aren’t just numbers on a spreadsheet — they’re what keep us afloat. They pay for taxes, the relentless upkeep that the sea air demands, and most importantly, the little extra that my incredible staff rely on to care for their families.
Some guests have graciously chosen to reschedule their holidays to a later date, and I’m deeply grateful for their understanding. But moving bookings to next December feels like facing a double storm — it risks the fragile balance that keeps this lodge open.
It’s not easy to explain why refunds are impossible, but it comes down to this: our lodge operates on slim margins, and December is the cornerstone of our year. This is why travel insurance is such a vital safety net — it protects both travelers and small businesses like ours.
Through all this, my faith is the reason I’m still smiling. It’s the anchor that reminds me God has wonderful plans for Venha Juntos Guest Homes in 2025. I’m holding onto His promises and trusting in His timing.
To all our friends, guests, and future visitors — Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! May this season bring you peace, joy, and a renewed sense of hope. Barra will be waiting for you, and so will we, with open arms and hearts full of gratitude.
Here’s to brighter days ahead and seeing you soon in our beautiful corner of Mozambique.
