World Environment Day — and honestly, it means something a little different when you live on the edge of the ocean.

From where we're standing right now, we can see the reef, hear the birds, feel the sand. This place isn't a backdrop for us — it's home. And it's a constant reminder of exactly what we're here to protect.

At Vista Bonita, we've always tried to tread lightly: recycling, upcycling, locally sourced materials, and a deep respect for the land and sea that make all of this possible. It's not always easy in a remote corner of Mozambique, but it's always worth it.

Today we're grateful — for this bay, for the guests who choose to travel with care, and for every small choice that adds up to something bigger.

If you're thinking about your next escape, come somewhere that takes this stuff seriously.

Drop us a message on WhatsApp to find out more about what we're doing — and what we have available for your next visit.

The whales are back! Paul and I could not be more excited.

Every year, as the Indian Ocean cools and the waters around Guinjata Bay shift into their quieter, bluer winter mood, the humpbacks return — and every year, without fail, it stops us in our tracks.

There is something about witnessing a humpback whale that simply cannot be prepared for. The scale of them. The unhurried grace. A creature that can weigh 40 tonnes moving through the water with a kind of effortless elegance that makes you feel, just for a moment, that the world is much larger and much more extraordinary than your day-to-day life allows you to remember.

They come here to this stretch of the Mozambique coast to breed and to rest — calving in the warmer months further north, then moving south as the season turns. And right now, they are passing through our waters. Sometimes close enough that you can hear the breath before you see the blow.

If you've always meant to come during whale season, this is your year. Mornings on the deck with coffee, scanning the bay for that first dark shape. An afternoon on the water, watching a mother and calf surface alongside the boat. These are the moments that quietly become the ones you talk about for years.

Season runs June through November. We still have availability for the July school holidays, but it moves quickly.

Drop us a WhatsApp and let's get you here.

We've been lucky enough to make some wonderful new friends recently — and they arrived bearing gifts.

A proper care package, filled with things that are genuinely hard to come by out here at Guinjata Bay. The kind of gesture that reminds you how good people are.

We've been slowly working our way through the contents with great appreciation — but we had to pause and share this moment first. Have you seen the colour of this dragonfruit? That hot-pink flesh, those little black seeds — nature really did show off with this one. It almost felt wrong to eat it. Almost.

A huge thank you to our new friends for thinking of us. You made our week.

Happy Mother's Day to every mum waking up somewhere along this coastline today — and to all the ones still dreaming of it.

There's something about the ocean that puts things into perspective. The noise quietens. The list disappears. You remember what rest actually feels like.

Paul and I created Vista Bonita because we believe in that feeling—not only as a holiday, but as something you take home with you and keep.

To every mother out there today: we hope your day holds at least one quiet moment that's entirely yours. You've earned it.

With love from Guinjata Bay. 💛

Happy Friday from Guinjata Bay — where the week has no authority over you.

May is one of those quietly magical months here. The crowds are gone, the water is clear, and if you look hard enough from the shore, you might just spot the first humpbacks making their way up the coast. The season is building, and it never gets old.

If the week has been a long one, this is your reminder that a few days at Vista Bonita fixes most things. Paul and I are already watching the horizon. Come join us.

Drop us a message to check availability for a winter escape.

Happy Mother's Day to every mama celebrating in Mozambique today
There's something about this corner of the coast that reminds us what matters most — the slow mornings, the barefoot walks, the sound of the ocean doing all the talking.
To the mothers who keep showing up, who carry so much quietly, who hold families together with salt air and love — today is yours.
From Paul, Sheena, and everyone at Vista Bonita: Feliz Dia das Mães. We hope today brings you something still, something beautiful, and maybe something with your feet in the sand.

A master carpenter with a gift for seeing possibilities where others see scraps, Alexander brings our ideas to life with skill, creativity, and a genuine commitment to doing things the right way. Whether he's upcycling, repurposing, or crafting something entirely new from what already exists, his work sits at the very heart of what Vista Bonita stands for — building beautifully, treading lightly, and leaving this corner of Mozambique a little better than we found it.

On 7 April, Mozambique celebrates the strength and resilience of its women. While we honour the legends of the past, today we are also celebrating the leaders of the present.

We are shining a spotlight on Isabel Mandova, founder of the Mozambican brand Tropicalisa.

Isabel’s journey is a masterclass in sustainability; she has built a thriving business that supports local farmers and celebrates the natural bounty of our land. At Vista Bonita Eco Lodge, we believe in the power of local empowerment, and seeing women like Isabel lead the way in the agri-food sector makes us incredibly proud to call Mozambique home.

To all the women who work tirelessly to build a better future for their families and communities—Happy Mozambican Women’s Day!

"Happy Easter from Guinjata Bay."
This morning: coffee on the verandah, watching the Indian Ocean doing its thing. A Yellow-Billed Kite circles overhead. Some mornings, more than others, remind you why there is much to be grateful for.

A quick note, in case your Easter plans are still open. Term 1 ended on Friday, 27 March. Easter weekend runs from Good Friday, 3 April, through to Monday, 6 April. That's ten days between the end of school and the close of the long weekend — and the bay is warm, the ocean is clear, and we still have availability.

Casa Baleia and Casa Lula sleep up to four guests each — perfect for a couple or a small family. Casa Barracuda and Casa Guicoli take up to eight if you're bringing everyone. All four look directly out over the Indian Ocean. None of them has a bad view.

We're an owner-run lodge, which means when you message us, you're talking to us. We'll sort the details personally. A few dates remain. Message us here or use the link in our bio — and enjoy your Easter.
