The crocs are in season here at Linga!

This 18.4kg beauty took a live bonnie rigged on a halfbeak trace with a pink skirt.

We made quick work of rigging the bonnie to the trace right after caughting it on a daisy chain.

This croc took the bait while setting out the bonnie, pure adrenaline!

Day 5 of sharing our record board catches at Linga Bay Retreat! 🎣

The Amberjack, aka Reef Donkey — one of the most powerful and unforgiving fighters in the ocean.

This 18 kg beast was hooked on vertical jigging in 65 metres of water, where strikes are brutal and the first run is straight back down to the reef.

landed this giant on a squid jig, paired with an reel and rod — a proper test of strength, technique, and endurance.

No gym needed… try stopping an Amberjack at depth instead 💪🏻

Day 4 of sharing our record board catches at Linga Bay Retreat! 🎣

The Black Marlin – one of the ocean’s most powerful and aggressive predators, always delivering an unforgettable fight.

Black Marlin comes to the shallow waters from October to December and this one was landed on a reef with a depth of just 40 metres.

This 70kg beauty was caught on a white and blue kona with a bellyshine — and the strike couldn’t have come at a more exciting moment. We were still putting out the lines when the Marlin smashed the lure.

Emil Bloemhof Snr fought the Marlin exceptionally well on just a 30lb rod and reel — a proper test of skill and patience against such a powerful fish.

Day 3 of sharing our record board catches at Linga Bay Retreat! 🎣

Yellowfin Tuna – known for their incredible stamina and hard-fighting nature, these fish never disappoint.

One of the most exciting ways to target them is on topwater lures like poppers – the explosive strikes are something every angler should experience!

Dawie Wolmarans caught this 17kg YFT on a Williamson Jet popper.

Not only are they a top game fish to catch, but they’re also a great indicator of a healthy ecosystem. When Yellowfin are around, you can bet that other prized species like Marlin and Wahoo aren’t far behind.

Day 2 of sharing our record board catches at Linga Bay Retreat! 🎣

Dorado (Mahi Mahi), also known as the “chicken of the sea” thanks to its pure white, fine-grained meat, is always a prized catch.

This beautiful trophy was landed by David Aucamp on a purple and black Islander lure, rigged with a ballyhoo — a deadly combination that keeps producing!

This Dory bull tipped the scales at an impressive 16kg, making it a truly remarkable specimen.

First record on the board at Linga Bay Retreat – and one we’re extremely proud of!
This is exactly why we love the style of fishing we do most… vertical jigging.

The Giant Trevally – pound for pound one of the most powerful fish in the ocean – and an absolute thrill every time.

This beauty was landed by skipper Dawie Aucamp on a dead bait karapau, dropped down with a sinker.

Measured at a fork length of 138cm, with an estimated weight of around 50kg.

Another giant worth mentioning was taken on a pink Vortex 300g spoon, estimated at 45kg.

Dozens of Geets over 25kg have already been landed!

Some monster fish have been landed since we acquired our beach house at Linga Bay Retreat in 2011.

Our all-time record board has been replaced — ready to capture many more incredible catches to come.

Linga Bay Retreat Fishing Update 🎣

Tough conditions with calm winds and warm water, but we still managed a solid 11kg Green Jobfish 💪

A few fish on the jigs and red hot Yellowfin Tuna action on the poppers
