Boat trips, snorkelling, hiking, village tours and birding are usually on offer all year round. Hippos and crocodiles are domestic in the nearby swamps and are difficult to be seen. Many bird species are resident in our own swamp such as Kingfishers, Weaverbird, Herons, Falcons and Sea Eagles being some of the avian treasures found at Blue Canoe. Lake Nyasa itself is the third largest lake in Africa and probably the most beautiful. It is a snorkel paradise, as it inhabits just over a thousand species of fishes, more than the North American and European continents combined.
