We found a new part of the market and bought all these unusual cooking greens. We could only identify 3 - matapa, squash leaves and beans leaves. We asked Aida and Jose to do some plant identification and to give us cooking instructions. So interesting finding new things to eat.

We are harvesting our first few black-eyed peas! We don't have many - but this crop was experimental, so we are very excited by what we have!

We just build our second compost pile. We took a little compost out of our first one, to help the squash along, and now we are going to put it to bed and let it fully compost for a few months before putting it on the beds. It takes a lot of care to make good compost!

Aida, who takes care of many things at Casa Guci, brought us a sample of her peanut crop the other day. We boiled them with salt as a delicious snack. We are growing a small field of peanuts here but they need another month in the ground. Peanuts are actually not a nut but a legume like beans and peas.

We are not in fashion design at Casa Guci, but if we were this moth we saw the other day would be an inspiration. Speaking of which, it is fashion week in Maputo.

Our new project has yet to be successful. We are trying to make funky drinking glasses out of used bottles. We tried the low-tech method - first using petrol and then methylated spirit. We have decided that now we need to go a more technical route to get this new venture underway:)

Our basil is thriving, so we made a test of batch of basil-infused lychee lemon pops today - the recipe calls for limes, but we can't find any in Vilanculos right now. The pops are still in the freezer.
