The time has come to hand the lodge over so Pete and Hillary are no longer the owners and the new managers are Daniela and Harald. We would like to thank all our guests over the past 15 years. It's been fun.

On Friday, the 24th July 2020, Owen Kataparo, a local guide from the Epupa valley will start walking from Epupa all the way to Windhoek, via Ruacana. His mission? To educate the locals he meets and to create awareness of the devastating factors destroying his beloved Kunene Valley.

Earlier in 2020, the Kunene river has once again flooded the entire valley - a flood that could have been prevented. A flood that has left a painful reminder in its wake - if this is to happen again in 2021 - there will be little left of this hidden paradise. It is time to act, and fast.

But it is not the only reason why Owen is attempting this incredible walk and we will share in the coming days the reasoning behind his desperate cry for help.

Owen of course will need help along the way. If anyone can assist with a bottle of water, food even a place to sleep - please contact us via this platform or at [email protected] from where we will assist Owen. Donations are also welcome.

Stay tuned as we share his progress and the reasons for this brave attempt to save his home.

The river has risen and there is some water on the D3700 road from Ruacana to Kunene River Lodge, so a 4x4 vehicle is essential.
Coming via Opuwu towards the lodge is not a problem.
