One night tells you where you are.

A few more begin to tell you how the place behaves.

Sometimes staying longer simply gives you enough time to know the place a little better.

That's a fairly good argument for staying put.

A carcass doesn't stay a carcass for long.

It becomes food, movement, competition, and, eventually, clean ground again.

Vultures do a considerable amount of that work.

By feeding on carrion, they help remove decaying material from the landscape and play an important role in keeping the wider ecosystem functioning.

They may not be the animal most guests arrive hoping to see, but a reserve is not organised around safari wish lists. It depends on every species doing its part.

At this point in the dry season, water tells you where to start looking.

Not because every animal will be standing beside it, but because much of the surrounding landscape has had to account for where water remains.

Routes shift and wildlife moves between shade, forage, and the places where drinking is still possible. A waterhole may be the most obvious part of that story, but it's only one part.

The tracks leading towards it, the movement around it, and the quieter stretches between resources all tell you something about how the reserve is functioning in September.

On a reserve, water helps organise the day.

Good service is usually built in the details.

Otto Alfeld, founder of Training With Otto, works with our service teams at Epacha Game Lodge & Spa and Eagle Tented Lodge on an ongoing basis.

With nearly two decades of retail management experience, hands-on hotel and restaurant management experience, and formal w**e credentials through WSET and the Cape W**e Academy, Otto brings a practical understanding of what good service looks like on the floor.

In July, Otto spent a week at Epacha working with 20 of our waiters and bartenders through his Luxury Service Excellence programme.

The focus was simple: build consistency, confidence and guest-first thinking into the way service is delivered every day.
Practical, floor-focused training like this helps make sure good service is practiced, not assumed.

September does not arrive wearing green.

The grass is still dry.

Water still holds much of the movement together.

Morning light still carries winter's clarity, yet the days are warmer now.

The landscape hasn't changed season yet. It's merely started leaning towards the next one.

At Epacha, September is best noticed slowly.

The reserve is not only observed from a vehicle.

During clay pigeon shooting, the landscape stays open while your attention narrows.

Focus tunes in to the guide’s instruction, the movement of the target, and the moment you decide to act.

Technique, safety, and concentration shape the experience.

Some activities shift your pace by asking for your full attention.

Here, the view is the reason the room is there.

The tent opens onto the hills, light moves across the ground, and wildlife passes at its own distance.

There are fewer layers between you and the landscape here.

This is the quieter side of Epacha, held closer to the land.

At Epacha, the culinary experience begins with what is selected long before the table is set.

Ingredients served at Epacha Game Lodge & Spa and Eagle Tented Lodge are carefully sourced from local suppliers, with weekly deliveries supporting freshness, quality and consistency across both properties.

In June, Hantie Jansen of Sage by Hantie returned to continue working with the culinary teams at both lodges.

The ongoing partnership focuses on menu development, technique, presentation, and the standards required to move each dish from preparation into thoughtful service.

The two lodges offer different ways of experiencing Epacha Private Game Reserve, but the care behind the table remains shared.

In 2001, safari and wellness were not an expected pairing in Namibia.

At Epacha Game Lodge & Spa, they were designed to belong together.

The early departure, cold morning air and focused attention of a game drive are followed by warmth, nourishment, treatment and rest.

Neither side interrupts the experience.

Together, they shape the day.

The Epacha experience is shaped by more than just the landscape alone.

Connections with people are a big part of what makes visits here so memorable.

Throughout a stay, there are countless small exchanges between guests and the people around them.

Conversations before a drive. Questions after a sighting. A meal served at the right moment. Teams working together quietly in the background as the day moves between lodge and reserve.

At Epacha Private Game Reserve, time in nature and time with people belong to the same experience.
