Are nurses and health workers in Nigeria rude? From my past experiences, I would have said yes. But after visiting the National Blood Transfusion Center in Wuse, Abuja today, my answer is now: not all of them.
I usually go to random hospitals to donate blood every three months, but today I decided to do something different. I visited the National Blood Transfusion Center in Wuse, Abuja, and the experience was exceptional.
From the moment I arrived, everyone — including the security personnel — was very polite. That was honestly new to me. The nurse assigned to take my details and blood sample was highly professional. From the way she spoke and handled everything, I could tell she was well educated and properly trained.
After confirming that I was fit to donate, she gave me cream crackers, bottled water, and malt. She then said, “You need to tell your friends about blood donation because many people don’t know how important it is.”
After the donation, the second nurse who collected the blood said, “Thank you for saving a life.” On my way out, almost every staff member I met repeated the same words: “Thank you for saving a life.”
That simple statement made doing good feel even more rewarding. The orientation and professionalism of the staff there truly deserve applause.
Take that bold step today — go out and save a life.
