Grow in Grace
David C. Okoye
“but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory both now and forever. Amen.” ~2Peter 3:18.
It’s such a beautiful thing to know that, apart from receiving the grace of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, we can also grow in it. We can increase and thrive in grace. Glory to God!
So, in keeping with the instruction in our Text, how do we grow in the grace of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ? Basically, we grow in grace by exercising ourselves in it. Dormant grace remains dormant. An unused grace remains unused. An active grace thrives and increases because God’s grace has elastic possibilities and its elasticity is endless. Therefore, we determine how far that grace can go in our lives. What a thing!
We exercise ourselves in grace by acting on the Word of God’s grace (Acts 20:32), doing the Word of God. God’s Word is packed with God’s grace. Exercising ourselves in God’s Word is exercising ourselves in God’s grace. We also exercise ourselves in grace by carrying out the assignment for which we have been graced. The more we are engaged in the area of our calling the more the grace of God on our lives become more evident and obvious.
We must also ensure that we yield to the grace of God in our lives and not frustrate it. We must live everyday with the consciousness that we are nothing without the grace of God. We must never see ourselves outside the context of grace. We must be humble enough to sincerely acknowledge God’s grace at work in us for the things He enables us accomplish. Grace and pride don’t agree. The Word of God says: “But He gives more grace. Therefore He says: "God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble."” (James 4:6).
PRAYER
Father, thank You for the blessing of both receiving and growing in Your grace. I thrive by Your grace in me, in Jesus’ Name. Amen!
