The Branch National Executive Members of PTD NUPENG, on January 21, 2026, elected Com. Mathias Ote, former National Vice Chairman, Warri Zone, as the new National Chairman. He replaces the late Com. Augustine Egbone, hailing from the same zone and being the most senior officer there.
And all the four zones unanimously supported the Motion

*PTD NUPENG PORT HARCOURT ZONE UNANIMOUSLY RETURNS COMR. JOSEPH OKAFOR (JP) FOR SECOND TERM*

A meeting of PTD NUPENG National Officers, held at PTD NUPENG House, Emene, Enugu, on January 18, 2026, saw Comr. Joseph Okafor (JP), Zonal Chairman, PTD NUPENG Port Harcourt Zone, and his executives unanimously agreed to be returned for another four-year term unopposed.

The motion, moved by Comr. Ezenwa Kingsley, Acting Zonal Chairman, NUPENG Port Harcourt Zonal Council, and seconded by Comr. Ayi Emmanuel and Comr. Stephen Chibueze, received unanimous support from the entire PTD Leadership in Port Harcourt zone.

This endorsement reaffirms the trust and confidence reposed in Comr. Okafor's leadership. The zone looks forward to continued progress under his stewardship.

*PTD NUPENG National Chairman, Comr. Augustine Egbon, Laid to Rest*

The Petroleum Tanker Drivers (PTD) branch of the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) bid a tearful farewell to their beloved National Chairman, Comr. Augustine Egbon (JP), as he was laid to rest on January 10, 2026.

The burial ceremony, which took place at EBS Benin city, was attended by top dignitaries from NUPENG, including National President Comr. Prince Akporeha, General Secretary Comr. Afolabi, National Trustee Comr. Otunba Oladiti, acting national chairman Comr. Malut Abubakar, 2nd deputy national chairman Comr. Odinakachi Nwador, National secretary Comr. Oluchi Chinagorom, all national Executive council members of PTD NUPENG, Zonal Chairmen and Zonal officials, Unit Chairmen, Treasures, Secretaries, Trustees and other esteemed guests from across the nation.

The event was a grand display of respect and admiration for the late Comr. Egbon, who was remembered for his dedication, leadership, and commitment to the PTD and NUPENG. The atmosphere was somber, yet celebratory, as friends, family, and colleagues came together to bid farewell to a remarkable leader.

The NUPENG leadership and members of the PTD branch expressed their gratitude to all who attended the burial, acknowledging the impact of Comr. Egbon's legacy on the union and the nation.

Comr. Egbon's burial marks the end of an era, but his memory and contributions will continue to inspire and motivate the PTD and NUPENG family.

*NATIONAL EXECUTIVE COUNCIL MEETING OF PETROLEUM TANKER DRIVERS (PTD) BRANCH OF NUPENG*

The Petroleum Tanker Drivers (PTD) branch of the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) recently held its National Executive Council Meeting at the Embassy Classic Suites Hotel, Secretariat Road, New Owerri, Imo State.

The meeting, which was presided over by Comr. Abubakar Malut, the Acting National Chairman of PTD branch of NUPENG, featured high-profile delegates from other unions, security agencies, and dignitaries from the oil and gas sector.

The event was a resounding success, with discussions centered on the welfare of drivers, security on the roads, and the overall development of the union. The meeting provided an opportunity for delegates to share ideas and experiences, and to chart a way forward for the union.

Comr. Abubakar Malut, in his opening remarks, welcomed delegates to the meeting and emphasized the importance of unity and solidarity in achieving the union's goals. He also thanked the Imo State government for their hospitality and support.
