The Pacesetter State Needs a Shift in Focus
It is time for a collective rethink regarding the socio-political climate in Oyo State, particularly within Ibadan.
While we take pride in our heritage, we must address a growing concern: our public discourse is increasingly dominated by frivolous distractions rather than substantive governance
While neighboring economic hubs like Lagos are aggressively pursuing industrial and infrastructural expansion, our local conversations often center on social media personalities and "actors" who contribute little to the state's long-term economic value.
The Reality of Development
We must distinguish between basic administration and visionary development:
Salaries & Road Maintenance: Consistent payment of civil servant salaries and the completion of selective road projects are commendable, but they are statutory obligations—the baseline of governance, not the peak of it.
The Missing Link: True development should be felt across every ward and local community. This is why we must shift our energy toward clamoring for the full implementation of Local Government (LG) Autonomy.
Our Collective Responsibility
Is the current pace of progress truly what a modern Oyo State should look like? If we want a state that competes on a global scale, we cannot afford to be distracted by trivialities.
We need to demand more than the "bare minimum." Let’s stop elevating those who add no value to our state and start prioritizing the structural reforms that will ensure fair, even and sustainable development for all.
It’s time to move from entertainment to engagement.
