DearBrother Secretary
USE OF MOBILE PHONES and CAMERAS.
The Boardof General Purposes of the United Grand Lodge of England has become increasinglyconcerned at the misuse of cameras, mobile telephones and other electronicdevices (eg; tablets) during or in connection with Masonic meetings. This isparticularly so, now that these have become even smaller and less obtrusive.
Therefore,at the Quarterly Communication of the United Grand Lodge of England held on 10thSeptember 2014 an updated directive on this subject was issued, which states,in summary;
All mobilephones and other electronic devices must be switched OFF during meetings of Grand Lodge, District Grand Lodge andPrivate Lodges. If an urgent call is expected, arrangements can be made for itto be received by the Tyler.
The taking of photographs, by whatever means, during meetings, includingany procession before or after a meeting, is strictly forbidden.
Whilst the taking of photographs during the after proceedings of a Lodgemeeting is unlikely to offend any Rule of the Book of Constitutions, it can benevertheless be intrusive and distracting. The taking of such photographs shouldtherefore only be with the permission of the Master and the individualsconcerned.
These points should be brought to thespecific attention of the Lodge Director of Ceremonies, who should ensurestrict compliance with the directive.
Please cause this letter to be read in OpenLodge and recorded in your Minutes.
Yours sincerely and fraternally
Peter Crabb
District Grand Secretary
