June 2019

Dear Friends, Dear Guests,

After a long, varied and very interesting career I am finally retiring and Aemstelhuys Bed & Breakfast will very shortly be closing its doors forever.

I’m really looking forward to starting the next stage of my life with lots of time to work on my Bucket List. The house is going up for sale next week. I will be moving to Naarden-Vesting, a tiny and beautiful moated village just fifteen minutes drive out of Amsterdam where I will spend the summer months and then to Cape Town South Africa to spend the winter months, their summer, with my daughter who lives there. That is the plan but who knows what could happen??

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you for contributing in various ways that have enriched my life and career. A special thanks to all of you who took the time to write such wonderful reviews on TripAdvisor, making me the proud recipient of many Certificate of Excellence, Traveller’s Choice and Hall of Fame Awards.

You can always get in touch with me on my private email address:
[email protected] or my mobile +31.0646.342.717.

I am hoping that I will finally have time to sit down and finish my book,”A Monkey on my Balcony”. If it gets accepted for publishing I will let you know.

I wish all of you the very best.
With kind regards,

Lesley

Temporarily for rent: [AVAILABLE FROM 16NOV TILL 21 JANUARY]
AN 18th C TOWNHOUSE IN THE HEART OF AMSTERDAM

A townhouse with four floors and a typical "achterhuis" - back house, set on a very quiet street next to the River Amstel in the heart of upmarket residential Amsterdam. Close to lots of shops and direct tram from Central Station. 25 restaurants, bars and cafés within five minutes walk. Supermarket around the corner.

First floor: Entrance, dining room, modern stainless steel kitchen with SMEG oven and fridge. Sitting room with gas run log fire, utility room with WC and sink, washing machine and dryer and stairs up to a small single bedroom at the rear. Access to the small south facing garden through french doors.

First floor up: large bedroom with double bed, sitting area and TV plus a large bathroom with bath and separate shower.

Top floor: Large bedroom with twin beds and shower room. Two adorable and friendly cats complete the household. Catflap to the garden so no mess inside. Basement floor has separate private entrance and is not included in the rental. PM for more info!

Just read this review on TripAdvisor from a lady who was here with her granddaughter for a week. Wow I am quite overwhelmed!!
I love staying in B & B's....and have stayed in many in Ireland, France, Austria and The Netherlands. This is by far the best experience I have had. The owner....Lesley....is very welcoming.....and I felt right at home! My 14 year old granddaughter was with me and we really appreciated all the wonderful suggestions regarding restaurants, sites to see, etc....that Lesley offereed during our stay.

We had the top floor room with 2 twin beds. It was clean, spacious and beautifully decorated! Every morning we awoke to the fresh smelll of homemade croissants baking in the oven. The breakfast was very generous....cheeses, meats, breads, homemade jams, juice, coffee, tea, fresh fruits and vegetables....

Lesley is a delightful person....and we enjoyed talking to her. She is extremely intelligent...is fluent in numerous languages (yes numerous!)....and is a wealth of information.

Our last day she made arrangements for a taxi to pick us up at 7 am. He was right on time....and the price was as quoted!

You will not be disappointed if you stay at the Aemstelhuys....!!

I almost forgot to mention...the Aemstelhuys is located in a beautiful neighborhood....close to shops & restaurants & the tram!
