In Schwelm, a former primary school from 1915 has been given a completely new life. Classrooms became 35 hotel rooms, the old gym is now Restaurant Die Turnhalle, and even the school kiosk returned as an honesty bar.

But what gives Das Schulhaus Hotel its real character are the people behind it. For hosts Kurt Hermandung and Marc Konopatzi, transforming this historic school into a hotel was a dream come true. In the former gym, chef Ulrich Glittenberg and his team continue that spirit with contemporary dishes made with as many regional ingredients as possible.

A hotel with history, humor and hosts who make it feel wonderfully personal. Or, as Kurt and Marc put it themselves: “The former school is all about one thing: enjoyment!” 🤍

At La Butte aux Bois, a five-star experience is shaped long before a guest notices it. Laura Martinelli, Cimi Memlika and Hendrik Dequae each play a very different role, but together they help make the hotel feel as polished as it does personal.

For 20 years, Laura has been listening closely to guests. As Guest Relations Manager, she follows their feedback, reads every review with care and turns those insights into ways to make the experience even better.
Cimi, Housekeeping Manager for 15 years, leads the teams behind the immaculate rooms and spotless spaces throughout the hotel, the kind of work that often goes unseen, but is felt everywhere.

Parc Broekhuizen recently took center stage in Netflix's Love Is Blind: Netherlands, where couples celebrated their wedding day at this historic estate in the Utrechtse Heuvelrug.⁠

Dating back to 1810, the grand manor house is surrounded by centuries-old trees, landscaped gardens and a picturesque pond. Wedding ceremonies take place in one of the estate's characterful rooms, on the lawn or on the terrace of Michelin-starred Restaurant Voltaire, overlooking the water.⁠

From a ch*****ne toast selected with the sommelier to a multi-course dinner, dancing in the Coach House and a night in the Grand Suite, every part of the celebration has its own special setting. ✨⁠

When Kasteel de Wittenburg was built in 1899, its first residents, Jonkheer Helenus Marinus Speelman and Sophie Adriënne barones Sloet van Oldruitenborgh, filled it with memories of their travels. Their collection of Chinese vases can still be found throughout the castle today, quietly revealing a more worldly side to this historic estate in Wassenaar.

That spirit lives on downstairs at Restaurant Sophie, named after the castle’s first lady. Here, chef Erik van der Hulst combines French craftsmanship with refined Asian influences, turning her love of travel into a culinary story of its own. With only ten rooms, centuries of character and the sea and The Hague close by, a stay here feels wonderfully removed from everyday life.
As restaurant manager Milan Dieke puts it: away from it all, yet only moments from the city. ✨

Today, the MICHELIN Guide Netherlands 2026 was revealed in Maastricht, with seven restaurants receiving their first MICHELIN Star. We are incredibly proud to see two of those new stars shine within the Quality Lodgings collection.

A very special congratulations to Nassau at Prinsenhof Groningen, where chef Christian de Vries lets the product take center stage, and to Wild Atelier at Hotel Gastronomique De Echoput, where chef Jonathan Zandbergen’s deep respect for nature and product is reflected in every plate. Both restaurants were awarded their first MICHELIN Star today. ⭐
