Welcome home, Global Minds! 🌍✈️

On the first day of the new academic year, we welcomed back our operational interns during the Global Mind Conference. After an intensive and life-changing experience abroad, students had the opportunity to reconnect with each other, reflect, and prepare for their third year of study.

The day started with Story Circles, where students shared their internship experiences, followed by inspiring conversations in the Spronckzaal. Alumnus Franck Hanselman (F 1993) was interviewed by Ankie Hoefnagels and taught students valuable life and career lessons, gathered from a remarkable journey that took him to 86 countries, working with Cirque du Soleil before becoming General Manager of the Alizé show in Berlin.

We also celebrated the Global Mind Award, sponsored by Martin Hendricks (F 2008), CEO of Black Label Hotels. The award recognises the most outstanding Global Mind vlog, reflection, or photo assignment.

Congratulations to this year’s winner, Blanche Pauzié!
As the jury noted, Blanche stood out through her curiosity, critical thinking, and genuine intercultural awareness, exploring not only cultural differences but also their deeper meaning and impact on her own perspective.

A special congratulations as well to the runners-up: Mijntje Greefkes, Anna Baulesch, Lucca Morath, and Maxime Badji.

Hotel Management School Maastricht and student association Amphitryon have recently signed a renewed partnership agreement. By signing this agreement, we reaffirm and further strengthen our strong collaboration.

This renewed agreement provides an excellent foundation for continuing to build a strong connection between education and student life. By continuing to share knowledge, ideas, and initiatives, we can create even greater value for our students and the hotel school community.

🚴☀️ HBO Cycling Tour 2026 at HMSM

Last Friday, more than 250 colleagues from universities of applied sciences across the Netherlands cycled 50, 75 or 95 km through the hills of Limburg and the Meuse-Rhine Euroregion.

The route, designed by Zuyd alumnus Nas-Raddine Touhami, showed some of our region’s most stunning views. After crossing the finish line on our campus, participants celebrated with a piece of traditional Limburg 'vlaai' 🍰

The day concluded with the symbolic handover of the cycling wheel to Christelijke Hogeschool Ede (CHE), host of the 2027 edition.

In the latest episode of Podcast Hotello’s, host Victor Abeln sits down with Marit van der Meijs [F 2023], owner of De Zingende Zwaan, and Cyril Teissier [F 2023], co-owner of De Pizzabakkers.

Marit worked her way up to general manager before receiving an unexpected offer that changed everything: the opportunity to take over her own business. Cyriel was supporting franchise entrepreneurs as a consultant when a casual coffee conversation led him to become a business partner himself.

Together, they reflect on their time in Maastricht, share lessons from building and leading hospitality teams, discuss the realities of opening a business, and offer honest advice to students considering an entrepreneurial future.

During their internships, HMSM students take part in the Global Mind assignments. These assignments are designed to go beyond day-to-day work and help students reflect on their experiences in an international and cultural context.

For Global Mind Assignment 3, students were asked to step outside their own perspective and see their development through the eyes of others. By creating a vlog or podcast, they interviewed colleagues and supervisors about their growth, communication, and adaptation during their internship.

Lucca Morath is the winner: during her internship in Mauritius, she spoke with colleagues from different departments, creating an honest and complete picture of her development. Congrats! 👏
