Look at all those people enjoying the terrace which is now Casa Bruti. This must have been around 1985. It was the place to be in those times. The owners of the house had hospitality flowing through their veins and made everyone feel welcome ❤️
And yes, as you can see there was still sky to be seen instead of skyscrapers.

We are for the first time seeing inside Casa Bruti’s attic. Quite intimate 😅
A piece of ceiling is gently removed so we can have a look and determine our course.
In the coming time the roof will be insulated from the inside.
After that the insulation of the walls will follow. This will help to keep the warmth inside in winter and outside in summer. Casa Bruti is a corner house which has its charms but also its challenges. We keep doing our best to make her prettier and better year by year.

We paid our first tourist tax in October 2015. Today is the 30th and last time we use this envelope. Four times a year, at the end of each quarter, there was this moment to remember all the happy faces and think back to the wonderful people we met. In that respect it was always nice to have that overview of people who stayed with us.
We will be missed as a holiday home, but we are sure we will make people happy in the future by supplying them a proper home for longer term.
We look back in gratitude and we look forward in faith.

Remarkable. In the last week we had one Italian reservation and two French reservations. And on entering the kitchen I see that all three parties used the French press. Whereas the majority of our guests, which are usually German, uses the filter coffe machine. So cool to see how different cultures leave small marks. ☕️

Added some wildflowers to the still healthy flowers and it’s as romantic as can be ❤️ Welcome to our new French guests.
We are still really lucky to receive many guests these last months of our being a tourist accommodation. Another two full months until closure of this chapter.

One of our lovely guests brought a present om arrival. We had never met, so it was very unexpected and most sweet. They brought coffee beans from Brühmarkt. We were happy and could see by the look of it that is was wonderful quality. But we lack a grinder. We wondered whether to give back the present. But that didn’t feel well at all. Then an idea sprang to mind. Why not buy a grinder?
So this morning we enjoyed the process. From holding the beans in our hand, to grinding them by hand and making a lovely lovely brew.
Lente Thee en Chocolade We hope we will become as snobbish with coffee as we are with tea thanks to your wonderful supply!

Checking the last things before our new guests will settle in. With every arriving guest we are getting closer to the ending of this chapter in the Casa Bruti story in which we were able to welcome tourists. It sometimes gives a melancholic feeling. But at the same time we are excited about turning the page to a new chapter in which we may welcome people to really enjoy these two wonderful apartments as their home.

Many wonderful years have passed since we openend our door to visitors from over the whole world. Providing a temporary home for people visiting our beautiful city and beach.
Now the rulers of this beautiful city have decided that we cannot rent out to tourists anymore. Our apartments are destined for longer term habitation, as stated in the land registry.
So this door is gently closing. From January on we will open our door for long time rent. A minimum of four months and a maximum of a year. We keep both of our apartments furnished.
We look back on years of wonderful encounters with the lovely people visiting us. We were happy to create a home away from home. Now we will look forward and make our home a real home for whoever needs a place to stay. ❤️🚪🏡

I said goodbye to our guests this morning. She held my arm. ‘You know, I noticed the guestbook was full. But I really wanted you to know how well we have been. So I bought you a new guestbook.’
So grateful for the people we meet here. There is so much sweetness and friendliness ❤️
