Make your own Mongolian instruments! 😮

For the first time in Europe, Altai presents a fully immersive 4-day Mongolian Instrument Building Retreat with master throat singer and instrument maker Baatarsuren Chadraabal from Western Mongolia.

Together, we will handcraft not one, not two, but THREE traditional instruments:

• The Tovshuur – a traditional 2-stringed Mongolian lute
• The Ikel Khuur – a bowed instrument from Western Mongolia
• The Tsuur – an ancient Mongolian flute

Surrounded by nature at the inspiring artist retreat location Rolandshof in Winkelsett (Germany), participants will spend four days carving, shaping, sanding, polishing, stringing, and bringing these rare instruments to life by hand.

No previous woodworking experience required!

Wat een bijzonder weekend weer bij Altai! Dit weekend doken deelnemers twee dagen lang in de wereld van keelzang en boventoonzang onder begeleiding van Rowan. Met gerichte oefeningen maakten we een echte deep dive in het beheersen én ontdekken van deze bijzondere technieken.

Saran maakte het compleet met heerlijke Mongoolse ontbijt-, lunch- en diners. Ook maakten de deelnemers kennis met hoe Mongoolse keelzang wordt gecombineerd met traditionele instrumenten zoals de morin khuur, tovshuur, Altai harp en mondharp – en natuurlijk gingen we zelf aan de slag op de morin khuur om te voelen hoe dit instrument bespeeld wordt.

De volgende mogelijkheid om mee te doen is 7 & 8 maart. 🙌 Wellicht tot dan!
