Last week, we hosted something truly special: the very first Mongolian throat singing retreat exclusively for women, guided by professional throat singer Zolzaya Damba, who traveled all the way from Mongolia 🇲🇳 to share her art, knowledge and her personal journey.
In a warm and cozy farmhouse in the Groningen countryside, 10 women came together to explore the foundations of Mongolian throat singing. Participants joined from all across:
🇳🇴 Norway · 🇸🇪 Sweden · 🇨🇿 Czech Republic · 🇩🇪 Germany · 🇧🇪 Belgium · 🇳🇱 The Netherlands · 🇺🇸 USA! So amazing.
What unfolded was far more than a workshop. It became a space of connection, courage and shared experiences. Strangers slowly became a group, meaningful stories were exchanged. Once again, throat singing proved to be more than a vocal technique: it is a bridge between people!
Zolzaya shared not only her deep knowledge of throat singing, the traditional instruments she plays, but also her personal story as a woman mastering an art traditionally dominated by men. Her openness and determination were deeply inspiring, showing participants that with courage and dedication, it is possible to reach your dreams.
This retreat would not have been possible without my wife Saran Myagmarsuren, whose warmth and care made everyone feel truly at home. And with the invaluable help of our dear friend Mika Mia, she prepared nourishing, freshly cooked breakfasts, lunch, dinners, and snacks throughout the retreat.
Thank you to everyone who was part of this beautiful journey.
We leave deeply inspired: and excited to grow our concept “The Power of the Female Voice” into something even bigger.
