Even though we were closed for two months, there was never a shortage of meaningful work at the lodge.
Running a lodge this deep in nature means learning to do many things yourself â especially after the long and challenging winter. Fixing, rebuilding, improving, and finding solutions day by day.
Every day teaches us something new. Sometimes we have to try things more than once, adjust, and find a better way until it feels right.
Itâs a constant learning journey â but thatâs also what makes this place so special.
At ONGA, our grass roofs are more than just beautiful â theyâre part of how we work with nature instead of against it. đż
They help insulate the lodge throughout the year, keeping it cooler in summer and warmer in winter. The roofs also absorb rainwater, support biodiversity, and allow the buildings to blend naturally into the landscape around us.
And honestly â maintaining them comes with one of the best views imaginable.
Traditional Scandinavian grass roofs have been used for generations, and for us, theyâre a way to combine heritage, sustainability, and connection to nature in everyday life.
