🏔️ Getting to know James Thacker IFMGA Mountain Guide

James grew up on the edge of the Peak District, where he developed a passion for climbing and the mountains. These days, his work is mainly focused on off-piste skiing and ski touring in Scotland, Chamonix and Norway.

🎿 James is an IFMGA Mountain Guide and founder of Off Piste Performance. He first got into skiing in East Greenland, using Nordic skis and pulks while working on first ascents in the Lemon and Lindberg Ranges. It was there that his interest in working towards becoming a Mountain Guide really began.

James qualified as an IFMGA Mountain Guide in 2012 and has been based in Chamonix ever since, guiding and skiing throughout the Mont Blanc Massif. He continues to spend plenty of time in Chamonix, including guiding our popular All About the Down week and private backcountry trips.

🇳🇴 Norway has also been a regular part of James’ work for over ten years, particularly around Tromsø. Skiing from summit to sea offers a very different experience to the Alps and is something he enjoys sharing with guests.

🏔️ Alongside guiding, James is a Senior Forecaster with the Scottish Avalanche Information Service (SAIS).
