Most hotels sell you things to do. We’re giving you a reason to pause.

A bed, an iconic round window, and the fjord stretched out in front of you. That’s it. That’s the offer. We tucked our two birdbox cabins carefully into the hillside and let the view do the rest.

Sit still long enough and the place comes to life. Eagles over the fjord, our cats passing by, or curled up asleep in the tall grass, and if you’re really lucky, deer grazing right outside your window.

The best thing you’ll do here is absolutely nothing. Which, out here, turns out to be everything.

This is the seat people travel across the world for🥹

Two chairs turned toward a rounded window, with the fjord far below and the sky going gold over the water. A blanket pulled close, a book you finally have time for, and a whole evening ahead of you with nowhere else to be. The hours before were just as quiet: out in the long grass, the sun on your face, the only sound being the wind in the trees.

While the rest of the world rushes through the day and races the clock, here that simply doesn’t exist. No rushing, no notifications, no endless list. Just the slow turn of the day, and the rare feeling of being completely where you are.

Most people keep promising themselves a place like this. Someday, when things calm down. But the calm doesn’t always arrive on its own. Sometimes you have to go somewhere that brings it for you.

This is one of our two tiny birdbox cabins above the fjord in Nordfjord, on the west coast of Norway. It’s real, you can book it, and slow days like this are exactly what it was built for.

There’s a kind of quiet you only notice once you slow down enough to hear it🌿

You feel it from the moment you arrive. From the moment you wake up in the morning, when the light comes up slow over the fjord, until the day winds down and everything turns gold in the evening. The water goes still and mirrors the sky. The mountains soften into shadow, then later disappear altogether under a sky full of stars. The view shifts by the minute, slow enough to watch and never quite the same twice. And you, wrapped up by the window or in bed, watching all of it through a rounded frame that holds the whole valley like a painting that keeps repainting itself.

This is one of our two tiny birdbox cabins in Nordfjord, on the west coast of Norway. We placed it carefully, tucked into the landscape without interrupting it, so that the view is the thing you carry home. Spend your days out among some of Norway’s most special places, the fjords, the mountains and the water, then come back to this. Morning, evening, the middle of the night, the view is always the entertainment. The window does the work. You only have to be present for it.

More than 1500 guests from all over the world have stayed with us since we opened, and honestly, that still feels a little surreal 🥹

What started as a simple idea, sharing the place we call home, has brought visitors from countries and cultures we never imagined reaching.

We’re just a small family-run business in Nordfjord. There is no large team behind Skaara Living. Every cabin is prepared by us. Every message is answered by us. Every detail is taken care of by us.

Over the years, we’ve welcomed honeymooners, solo travellers, adventurers, couples, and friends. We’ve heard about more proposals than we can count on two hands through stories guests have shared with us and notes left in our guestbooks. Knowing that Skaara Living has been part of so many special moments in people’s lives is something we’ll never take for granted. Seeing guests experience this landscape for the first time never gets old.

To every single person who has stayed with us, recommended us, shared photos, or followed our journey: thank you. Your support means more than we can put into words.

Waking up at Birdbox Hjellaakeren feels like waking up inside a postcard. Surrounded by mountains, fjord and absolute silence, the world slows to a quieter, softer rhythm. The air is crisp, the stillness is rare, and the view stretches endlessly into the horizon.
