Eight seahouses, eight seasons.
Here in Olmmáivággi – Manndalen – each seahouse carries the name of one of the eight Sámi seasons. On this Sea Sámi coast, the year has followed the fjord, the small farm and the outfields. Swipe through the year 👉
1 · Giđđa – spring: snow leaves the shore, sheep and lambs on the small farms
2 · Giđđageassi – early summer: animals to the summer farms, light all night
3 · Geassi – summer: midnight sun, fishing in the fjord, Riddu Riđđu
4 · Čakčageassi – late summer: hay from the outfields, a wooden boat under sail on the fjord
5 · Čakča – autumn: golden birch over the valley, sheep down from the hills
6 · Čakčadálvi – early winter: dark days with pink light at noon
7 · Dálvi – winter: northern lights over the fjord
8 · Giđđadálvi – late winter: the sun is back, ski touring on the peaks

5 · Čakča – høst: gul bjørk over dalen, sauen ned fra fjellet
6 · Čakčadálvi – høstvinter: mørke dager med rosa lys midt på dagen
7 · Dálvi – vinter: nordlys over fjorden
8 · Giđđadálvi – vårvinter: sola er tilbake, topptur på ski
Coming up: the dark season and northern lights, whale watching in Skjervøy, huskies and snowmobile with .no, ice fishing, snowshoes and cross-country skiing when conditions allow.
