​As the Nepali New Year approaches, the ancient city of Bhaktapur transforms into a vibrant stage for one of Nepal's most thrilling festivals—Bisket Jatra. This is more than just a celebration; it is a 9-day immersion into Newari culture, history, and spiritual energy.
​Whether you are a local resident, a Nepali living abroad, or a traveler visiting our beautiful country, we invite you to witness the grand chariot processions and the iconic "Lingo" (ceremonial pole) ceremonies.
​📜 Major Highlights & Schedule (BS 2082/2083)
​Chaitra 26 (April 9): The Journey Begins
​Morning: Rituals at Ganesthan and Chaymha Ganesh to bring the sacred "Khadga" (sword) to the Guthi office.
​Chaitra 27 (April 10): Chariot Day (Rath Yatra)
​5:00 AM - 11:30 AM: Prayers and rituals for Lord Bhairavnath.
​2:00 PM onwards: The grand pulling of the massive wooden chariots of Bhairavnath and Bhadrakali through the historic streets of Bhaktapur. This is the heart of the festival—a true tug-of-war of devotion!
​Chaitra 30 (April 12): The New Year's Eve Pole Ceremony
​10:00 AM: Raising of the Jyata Ganesh Lingo.
​Afternoon: The main event at Bhelukhel. The massive Yoh Si (Lingo) pole is erected, symbolizing the victory over serpents and the start of a new era.
​Baishakh 1 (April 14): Nepali New Year 2083
​All Day: Celebrations across the city.
​5:00 PM: The ceremonial pulling down of the Lingo at Bhelukhel.
​Baishakh 5 (April 18): The Grand Finale
​Evening: The chariots of Bhairavnath and Bhadrakali make their final journey back to their "sacred homes," marking the peaceful conclusion of the festival.
