Happy Indra Jattra 2078 ! Indra Jatra is the eight-day long exuberant festival of the Newari community of the Kathmandu Valley. It is a time to honour the recently deceased and to pay homage to the Hindu god Indra (god of rain) and his mother Dagini, to ensure they bless the coming harvest.
During this festival, the flagpole ceremony, blood sacrifice, displays of Bhairava's masks, etc are carried out. Kumari, the living goddess will take the chariot to march through the streets of Kathmandu and Nepalese carry out the traditional masked dances. People gather and enjoy various delicious Newari cuisines as well.
