Update from Pokhara & Kiwi Backpackers Hostel
​Our hearts go out to everyone affected by the devastating floods and avalanche near the Nepal–China border. The loss of life, missing individuals, and destruction of critical infrastructure—including over 20 bridges—is heartbreaking. We extend our deepest condolences to the grieving families and wish a speedy recovery to all those injured.
​Current Situation & Safety Update:
​Pokhara & Kiwi Backpackers: Everyone here at the hostel and around Pokhara is safe and well.
​Road & Travel Status: Highways connecting Pokhara to Kathmandu and Chitwan are currently closed due to landslides and damage. Six of our guests who set out today safely returned to the hostel.
​Next Steps: Authorities are assessing road conditions with an official update expected tomorrow morning.
​We are staying on top of travel alerts to keep all our guests safe and informed. To support those affected by this disaster, we are organizing a community fundraising dinner soon—details will follow shortly.

Deeply saddened by the tragic loss of legendary mountaineer Nirmal "Nimsdai" Purja and nine other brave climbers in the recent avalanche on Broad Peak, Pakistan.

​Nimsdai inspired millions across the world through his incredible strength, humility, and determination to prove that "nothing is impossible."

​Rest in peace to Nimsdai and all ten expedition members who lost their lives on the mountain. Our thoughts and condolences go out to their families, friends, and the global mountaineering community. 🏔️🙏
