Father and Son United in Freemasonry
On the 9th of July, the Prince of Wales Lodge #1338 witnessed a truly rare and profoundly moving event: a father and son First Degree ceremony, marking the initiation of Evan James Hansen and his son, Nitro Sven Hansen, into the Masonic fraternity.
The atmosphere in the lodge was electric, filled with a sense of anticipation and warmth. The ceremony, a beautiful and touching experience for all who attended, was the culmination of diligent preparation by the brethren of Prince of Wales Lodge, whose hard work ensured the evening was executed with grace and precision. To see a father and son embarking on this journey together—becoming not just family, but brothers in the Masonic craft—was a poignant reminder of the enduring bonds that Freemasonry nurtures.
The evening was graced by the presence of our District Grand Master, Right Worshipful Brother Warren E. Weir, alongside a supportive gathering of brethren representing ten lodges from sister constitutions. Their attendance served to amplify the significance of the occasion, underscoring the unity and fellowship that define our fraternity.
For the new Masons, the decision to join was deeply personal yet rooted in a shared commitment to community. Both Evan and Nitro come from backgrounds defined by service and a desire to give back. Evan, a dedicated Land Surveyor and community-minded professional, has spent years serving his community, notably running a trust that provided essential maintenance for underfunded kindergartens and support for the vulnerable. Nitro, meanwhile, is a motivated student with a wide range of intellectual interests and a heart for service, currently volunteering at Tipping Point, a non-profit organization focused on sustainability and waste recovery.
By joining Freemasonry, Evan and Nitro seek to continue this proud family tradition of charitable endeavor. Evan expressed his belief that this esteemed society will foster growth for both him and his son, helping them to become better men. For his part, Nitro looks forward to engaging in stimulating conversations with like-minded individuals and building his confidence within a supportive group setting.
As they take their first steps into the light of Freemasonry, we welcome Evan and Nitro Hansen into our ranks. May their journey within the Craft be as rewarding and fulfilling as the service they have already rendered to their community.
