The third and final part of Heritage Week in Auckland concludes with the conversion of the Farmers department store to a hotel, which we now know as Heritage Auckland.
Although Hector has long since left the building- the high ceilings, original jarrah columns and native timber floors still capture the charm and character of the original 1920's building.
Fun Fact: When the Tower wing was completed in 1999, Heritage Auckland became the biggest hotel in New Zealand. Some of the first guests to enjoy the Tower wing were APEC delegates from Hong Kong, Singapore and Indonesia. Followed by the America's Cup teams, Prada (Italian challenge syndicate) and the American sailing team!
