Interesting Fact…
Each individual ryegrass tiller generally maintains only three live leaves at once.
As its fourth leaf begins emerging, the oldest leaf dies off. If horses repeatedly graze the plant before it has regrown approximately two leaves, it has less opportunity to restore its energy—eventually killing the plant and thinning the pasture.
That’s why a grass can be genetically tough, productive and winter-resilient, but recovery time is whats most important.
