TOW VEHICLES 🚗

Or the lack of!

Is not having a tow vehicle preventing you from going for that ride, attending that show or joining your local adult ride?

What sort of interest would there be if we were to have a tow vehicle for hire?

It would be a date rate + brining the car back fuel & Diesel kms paid on top.

Realistically would you be able to afford to hire the vehicle + float & would there be general regular interest?

It would be fully insured with a 3.5t towing capacity & automatic so everyone can drive it.

We’re starting to think “Paddock Vacuum” seriously undersells this thing… 😂

Most people know it for vacuuming manure out of paddocks 🐴💩

But recently, someone hired ours for a completely different job…

Cleaning out her stables.

She needed to remove all the old sawdust before putting fresh bedding down — and instead of shovelling it out one wheelbarrow at a time, she vacuumed it straight up.

So instead of:

Shovel → wheelbarrow → empty → repeat… 😅

You basically hold the hose like a giant vacuum cleaner and let the machine do the collecting.

Which got me thinking about all the other jobs people probably don’t realise we use this machine for 🤔

Can you guess what else I love using the paddock vacuum for? 🍂💦

Alright guys… I need your help! I want your ONE place that’s worth loading the float for. 🦄🏕️

Spring is only a few weeks away, and this year I want to make the most of it.

I want a summer full of adventures with my little girl Dani.

Not necessarily competitions or anything fancy. But also planning on some away shows too 😍

Mainly, Just those days you remember. Memories.

Loading the horses up early in the morning, finding somewhere beautiful and spending our time doing what we love.

And it got me thinking…

There must be hundreds of incredible places to ride around New Zealand that most of us don’t even know about. Google is not very good at helping, but you guys will have ridden places that you have loved 🥰

Beaches.

Forests.

Farmland.

Showgrounds. Etc

Hidden hacking spots that you’ll happily drive an hour or two for. Possibly Further?

Im open to all disciplines of riding - eg, one show grounds I recommend is in Ōpōtiki, there is a river that is behind the grounds and I have the most amazing memories of swimming my two horses lola and D there one summer!

If you could send Dani and I to a place anywhere in New Zealand with our horses this summer, where would you send us?

Tell me the place + region and what makes it worth the trip. What was the memory that makes it a worthwhile destination.

I’m super excited to start planning a summer of fun by horse back!🐴

Every horse owner has told this lie:

“He’s usually easy to catch.”

It’s normally said about 35 minutes into the ordeal…
While your horse boost past you like he is a Formula 1 race car 🫣

I’m sure you can picture it, I know you’ve been there. You just get close enough ‘he thinks’ and on his hind end he launches away full speed.

It’s usually when you’re in a rush to go somewhere, it’s pouring down with rain or you have company with you..

Just like this morning.. mango 🥭 thinking the weather and my jacket was just too scary, luckily he was just making a great impersonation of a fire breathing dragon.

They’re high on sugary grass, like today weather has set them off, they’ve escaped their paddock and feel unstoppable, or maybe they are just a new to human baby horse like mine usually are 🫣

The words come out of your mouth.. This has never happened before. 🙄

So far, you’ve tried:
Walking directly towards him.
Standing in the middle of the paddock while they run laps.
Hiding the halter behind your back.
Pretending you’re only there to check the water.
Catching another horse to make him jealous.
Shaking a feed bucket like your remaining dignity isn’t already inside it.

At some point, it stops being about catching the horse.
It becomes personal.

Then.. when he decides you’ve suffered enough.. or he has exhausted himself.. he let’s you walk up to him and put the halter on… finally!

But not without, she’s still a ghost that’s here to take my soul eyes 🤣

🐴 Confession time!

When was the worst/most inconvenient time that your horse made it difficult to catch him?

Or maybe you have a cashew (dani’s pony) that likes to put herself anywhere on the property and won’t let you near her knowing your just going to put her back 🤣🤣

No judgement here. We’ve all negotiated with an animal standing three metres away pretending not to know us. 😂

And yes Im feeling mental for being at papatoetoe Showhunter in this weather!! 🌦️

What if this was the summer you stopped saying, “I wish we could go…”? 🐴☀️

The summer you finally made it to that show.

Joined the pony club rally or adult ride.

Loaded up your horse and explored the forests, beaches and beautiful riding spots around New Zealand. 🇳🇿

Because summer isn’t remembered for the weekends you spent at home…

It’s remembered for the early starts, sandy hooves, new places, proud moments and adventures shared with your horse. 🏕️🦄

When you sow “grass seed,” you’re choosing far more than grass.

Do you know exactly what you’re planting beneath your horse’s feet?

Most of us recognise perennial ryegrass, but it isn’t simply one type of grass.

There are numerous cultivars, each bred with different characteristics that influence when it grows, how densely it covers the ground and how well it withstands challenging conditions.

This grass earns its place in the paddock when winter growth is hardest to find.

RGT Moxie is a high-yielding diploid perennial ryegrass bred to produce strongly across New Zealand’s key growing seasons—with particularly impressive winter and early-spring growth.

But what makes it different from an ordinary perennial ryegrass?

High tiller density 🌱

Each plant produces numerous shoots, known as tillers. Together, they create a dense, resilient sward with strong ground coverage and fewer open spaces for weeds to establish.

Resilience through winter 🥶

Its dense growth gives it good resilience under cool-season grazing and helps the pasture recover after wet conditions and winter pressure.

Room for greater pasture diversity 🌿

RGT Moxie has a semi-upright growth habit. It provides good ground coverage without completely closing the pasture canopy, allowing companion legumes and herbs to grow alongside it.

A +0-day heading date 📅

Heading dates are measured against the long-established Nui ryegrass benchmark. Moxie’s +0 heading date supports strong early-season production, providing valuable growth as paddocks move out of winter and into spring.

Interesting Fact…

Each individual ryegrass tiller generally maintains only three live leaves at once.

As its fourth leaf begins emerging, the oldest leaf dies off. If horses repeatedly graze the plant before it has regrown approximately two leaves, it has less opportunity to restore its energy—eventually killing the plant and thinning the pasture.

That’s why a grass can be genetically tough, productive and winter-resilient, but recovery time is whats most important.

🐴 When choosing pasture grass, what matters most on your property: winter growth, ground coverage, recovery or pasture diversity?
