A coastal adventure at low tide 🌊
When the tide goes out, a different world opens up along our coastline. A walk here is a little more adventurous than your usual stroll – a mixture of walking, scrambling and climbing over the fascinating volcanic rocks.
Away from the suburban noise, you can enjoy the gentle sound of the waves and the calls of shags perched in the trees, drying their wings in the sunshine.
Sadly, much of the intertidal life has disappeared over the years due to overcollection. But, with a little luck and a keen eye, you can still spot some of the survivors – kina (sea urchins) and sea stars nestled among the rocks.
It’s a chance to slow down, explore and experience another side of our beautiful coastline.
Just remember to check the tides before setting off! 🐚
