Just a heads up to plan your travel times next month, this is during wine and food festival, so it’s going to disrupt some people. The good news is that our Motel is well away from the works so will be quieter at night time. But as always, stick to the posted speeds through those sites and be careful, we want all whānau to be safe.
They will be carrying out asphalting work at two roundabouts on State Highway 1 in Blenheim early next month.
The State Highway 1, Grove Road / State Highway 6, Nelson Street is the first roundabout with night closures planned from 7pm to 5am on the nights of 2 - 4 February. During this time the roundabout will be closed at the Pitchill Street, Lane Street (on Dillon’s Point Road), Auckland Street and Bomford Street intersections before the roundabout. Entry to the Blenheim Railway Station carpark will be via the southern end (Horton Street) only during night works.
The crews will then move to the SH1 Main Street roundabout with night closures planned from 7pm to 5am on the nights of 9 - 12 February. During this time the roundabout will be closed at the Alfred Street, Freswick Street, Kinross Street, Symons Street and Park Terrace intersections before the roundabout.
During each of the closures, the same detour will be in place in both directions for all vehicles, including heavies, via Alabama Road, Battys Road, Nelson Street, Hutcheson Street and Lansdowne Street. This detour is expected to add up to 10 minutes to travel time.
This work has been planned to coincide with State Highway 1 Weld Pass night closures that begin on 29 January through to 13 February from 7pm and 5am. During this time there’ll be less traffic travelling through Blenheim to and from the Picton ferry. State Highway 1 through Blenheim is a busy arterial route and this work is essential to ensure it’s maintained and kept up to standard.
