Step ashore in the Marlborough Sounds at one of the predator-free sanctuaries and you'll understand quickly why people can't get enough of this area. Native birdlife — weka, kākā, tūī, NZ robin to name a few — going about their lives entirely on their own terms, in native bush that feels genuinely ancient. New Zealand, as it should be.
