Built in 1910 “Mock Georgian” style the house offers a retro charme with all modern amenities. Settled neatly in the Port Hills on Dyers Pass Road the Castle offers breathtaking views over the Christchurch valley and the foothills of the Southern Alps. The property is rather special with a tranquil garden, big outdoor area, a spacious kitchen, three lounges to relax and a large swimming pool. Both

Dale and Leeanne are currently working from home and are transforming the house into a guesthouse and lodge after the devastating 2011 earthquake. Dale is a builder and has been working in the tourism industry while Leanne is working self-employed as a professional Māori Language tutor. The Castle also sometimes hosts people from the “Helpx” platform that help to achieve our shared goal. Dale and Leeanne are interested in travelling and camping. They love good books, good food, good wine and most of all: good company. They know New Zealand very well - don’t hesitate to ask for information. The name “The Castle” is derived from their daughters surprised exclamation that the house looked indeed like a castle. We hope you will enjoy your stay with us.

Kia ora everyone - If you are our family or friends you may have followed our journey of The Castle from the concept stage of purchasing a shattered earthquake house to repairing it to its former glory and then opening it as a Bed and Breakfast (Dec 2019) . If you have recently followed our page as guests or interested guests we thank you too!
We hope everyone is keeping healthy and safe in your bubble (for those that live in NZ we call it our bubble) .
We wanted to give you a little update. We had amazing start to our new business and thoroughly enjoyed meeting people from all over the world and sharing the beauties of being a New Zealander.
Sadly everything changed for everyone around the world and for now many do not know what the future will bring. We wish you all well while you take the time to reflect and start to plan for your next steps. For us we have decided to rent our rooms at weekly prices for a while so please if you know anyone interested please do share. Take great care.

Greetings – Looking for accommodation in Christchurch? Come and join us at The Castle for winter. Beautiful fully furnished rooms available at reduced weekly rates. Fantastic mountain and city views, huge kitchen and living rooms with open fire, the castle is a lovely place to spend some time. We recently opened a bed and Breakfast after repairing and restoring the beautiful old home from the earthquakes.
Due to the boarders being closed we once again offer weekly accommodation. Centrally located, 3.8km away from the City centre. Bus stop is close by
We have 6 rooms available ( some with their own bathroom) after lockdown which include:
A huge kitchen / dining room with wood fire and another smaller kitchen for cooking/washing dishes including kitchen appliances for those that love to cook and bake this is a dream kitchen with blenders, slow cookers, microwave
A Lounge - with TV screen to play movies
A beautiful outdoor setting with BBQ, swimming pool, vegetable garden, decks and patios for relaxing.
Laundry - Washing machine and dryer
Some on site car parking & plenty of good on the street parking
Includes power, internet, all linen and cleaning products - all rooms are furnished
Great location on the cashmere hills with lots of walking and bike tracks. City centre 3.8 km, 200 metres to bus stop, Grocery store less than 2 km.
Dale and Leeanne reside in a private part of the ground floor, we have manged and taken care of over 200 travellers in the last four years while they worked and lived with us.
The Castle is a spacious 2 story house where you can come and stay and feel at home.
It is important that we:
Keep a clean and tidy house for others to enjoy
Have friendly, trustworthy and respectful people that stay at the castle
Please see our website for photos of each room, the Turret Room is not for rent. We also have the Butlers Room and the Pool Room for rent – photos can be sent if you are interested.

Weekly rates: the nightly rates on the website are not relevant during these coming times. Weekly rate is for two people. Single rates negotiable.

It is perfect for business trips / small groups or travelers wanting to indulge in the retro and modern charms of this special property All guests will have access to the delightful spacious living areas including the sitting room complete with a variety of library books and charming window seats, the outdoor garden area is perfect for breakfast whilst listening to the native New Zealand birds and large outdoor swimming pool desirable on those sunny relaxing days. Breakfast is served daily in the large kitchen/dining room. A range of teas and coffee is available all day. Free parking / wifi. Washing machine/Dryer at a cost. You’ll get a taste of the true Kiwi lifestyle when you stay at The Castle with Leeanne and Dale! Dale and Leeanne are both from Aotearoa (New Zealand). Leeanne is a NZ Māori and a teacher of the native language “te reo Māori” and is passionate about her culture, communities and the environment. Dale is a European New Zealander and spent many years as a tour guide. He is also a professional builder and left his employment four years ago to fulfill a dream of creating a space suitable for hosting guests from all over the world. Dale and Leeanne have excellent local knowledge of both Māori and European early settlement and have spent many years traveling around New Zealand especially in the South Island. They are very happy to share this with you. Dale and Leeanne reside in a private part of the ground floor but are freely available should you be needing any assistance or advice. We love sharing local knowledge and great places to visit throughout New Zealand.

Nested in the Port Hills close to the Bike Park and 9km from the centre city. There is a local restaurant/bar, bakery, hair dressers, beauty salon, pizza shop, burger shop, flower/gift/postshop shop 350m away.
