We are pleased to announce that Margaret Davidson, who was integral in the success of Mitchell Corp (parent company behind the Golden Chain and Mainstay brands), for over 30 years, is a finalist for the New Zealand Tourism Awards for the Tourism Industry Champion.

Marg has been part of the New Zealand Tourism Industry for decades and was integral in creating and evolving Mitchell Corp’s business systems that continue to form the foundation of many of the activities that still run today.

Margaret was a familiar, steady face in a changing industry, where she nurtured and mentored individual operators and licensees of various accommodation types throughout the country. She was tireless in promoting them to a wider audience and helped connect them with emerging markets as New Zealand tourism expanded in the 1990s when the Internet became more prevalent in day-to-day operations.

We are incredibly proud that Marg’s dedication and contributions to our industry has been recognised to the wider national industry, and wish her all success for the win.

Last week our team attended the TECNZ Conference in Rotorua, it was a fantastic event.

They had great keynote speakers and two points that resonated with us for our property members were:

1) Longer lead times, longer stays in post-Covid visitor recovery; and 2) Malcolm Johns’, CEO of Genesis Energy, talking about electrifying heat and electrifying transport – as two options tourism operators have to reduce their climate emissions. ⚡
