Another first for Dyers House, a kayak in the driveway! Our guest achieved a personal best in this year's 'Coast to Coast' one day event, cutting one and a half hours off his previous time.

The race starts on the West Coast, at Kumara Beach and finishes at the Pier on New Brighton Beach in Christchurch.

A gruelling 243km course with a marathon run over mountains followed by kayaking along the Waimakariri river then the bike ride across the Canterbury plains.

Well done Ian, those drinks last night were richly deserved! 😅🏅

Our finale on this list of "Beyond the Usual" Christchurch experiences is the historic town of Lyttelton, its port and harbour.

Throughout the week Black Cat cruises will take you over to Quail Island and they also run a ferry service to Diamond harbour. Both fascinating destinations, both deserving a walkabout. 🐟🦈

But the weekend is when additional attractions emerge. The Farmers Market, the Lyttelton Steam Tug, the Torpedo Boat museum, Grubb Cottage will keep you busy and a stroll around the streets and port will whet the appetite for, of course, a fish supper! - try the Fishermans Wharf or the Civil and Naval!

Dame Ngaio Marsh was a novelist ✍️ and renowned Shakespearian producer 🎭. A ‘Queen of Crime’ of the 1920s and 30s, many of her crime novels featuring Inspector Roderick Alleyn have been televised.

While staying at Dyers House, book a visit to her lifelong home nearby on the Cashmere Hills. Now a museum it has been preserved as it was when she was alive and contains much of the memorabilia of her colourful life.
