My lovely daughter and granddaughter made good use of The Retreat recently to get ready for a special day... It was then to become the all important 'Honeymoon Suite' for the bride and groom that night. Lovely to see it being used for such happy occasions, especially when it's your own family!

Have had so many lovely people stay in The Retreat, and so many heartfelt messages left, but never had one quite like this from a couple here for a one-night getaway:

"... The Retreat was perfect, I wish I could just pick it up and take it home with me. Was just lovely..."

So nice to be able to help provide special memories and a place where quality time is everything.

The fernery around the outdoor bath is establishing nicely, despite the frosts already... A record number of users of the bath this year, great to see it being enjoyed so often!!

Had a lovely father and son team from France stay last week - only one of them spoke very limited english. But who needs words when pictures say it all! A sneaky insight into what makes an impression on our tourists...So glad they didn't get to see our beautiful Port Hills up in flames... PS Drawing by son, guessing approximately 35 years old lol, just in case you were wondering...

And the wedding couples just keep coming... Waitangi weekend The Retreat provided accommodation for one very well-behaved groom the night before his big day, a lovely couple who share a long-distance relationship from opposite ends of NZ, another young couple who got married at a local winery on Sunday and spent their wedding night here, and finally, some guests from France enjoying a trip around NZ!

It's amazing the trouble some of the grooms and friends,family of the bride or groom go to to make the wedding day as special as possible, and really lovely to see. I had a groom last weekend turn up to set up flowers and rose petals, wine and candles.

This stunning holden turned up late in the afternoon on Sunday, apparently dropped off by the parents of the bride so that her and her new husband had tasteful transport the next day... Nice.

I've had soooo many wedding couples coming to stay at The Retreat after their big day, and have had a variety of cars (wedding or otherwise) up the drive, but this one takes the cake... Woke to this on Tuesday morning... Lovely start to married life!! (Alfa Romeo Spider)

Step two nearly complete - cleaning out the old shed and finding room in the front garage for anything not thrown out!! Just a few things to go... Time to draw the plans up after many days of being covered in cobwebs and jumping up and down on my wheelie bin to fit some more stuff in...

How exciting! STEP ONE of the private yoga & meditation studio - making the delapidated shed waterproof. Step two, cleaning it out, spiderwebs and all... A year later than hoped for, but it looks like 2017 is going to be good to The Retreat and it's clients...

I recently had some lovely guests stay in The Retreat who happened to have some amazing photography skills. Here's a rare pic of someone enjoying the outdoor bath, and it's not even summer... Ferns will be trimmed up soon to green them up, but they've come through winter okay... You too, could be enjoying a romantic moment like this...

For those of you who have previously stayed at The Retreat, you might be familiar with the spare garage tucked away beside it (currently used for storage etc). After joining a yoga class and really enjoying it, I've FINALLY decided what to do with my spare garage - watch this space in 2016 for a the prettiest yoga/meditation room in Prebbleton. If anybody has any tips for what they'd like to see included in their ideal yoga/meditation room, please feel free to let me know...

'The Retreat' is in great demand at the moment! One nice young couple moving out today after a 10-night stay (dedicated girlfriend visiting her military man from Burnham camp), and one gentleman moving in today from Wellington. He's here for the month of September while he works at his new job and searches for a nice house to rent for him and his wife.

Four wedding couples booked in for October, and a lovely couple from the UK coming for the month of November to visit their son in Springston...

Already getting enquiries for wedding nights for 2017 - it seems some brides are extremely organised...

It's all go, and Ollie (the cat in the photo below who thinks he has every right in the world to invite himself in) is just lapping up all the attention... Rest assured, if you don't like cats, he soon gets the message.
