Sea lions are making a comeback to the Otago coastline, with 15 pups having been born on the beaches near Dunedin this year. The NZ Sea Lion Trust is always keen to hear of any sightings of female sea lions (which light grey in colour) along Otago's coast via email to [email protected]

When returning from Allan's Beach, Otago Peninsula, on the road passing Hoopers Inlet, in a pool where the drainage channel spills out into the inlet were several sea lion pups frolicking. Just beyond was a large female sea lion and her pup resting.
(Locals are concerned for the safety of the pups and a temporary fence has been erected to help control viewing and the pups.)

Out on the Otago Peninsula, New Zealand, at Pilot's Beach at Taiaroa Head, about fifty people watched the nightly routine of 28 little blue penguins returning from the sea to their burrows and/or boxes for the night. Not many penguins due to the start of the moulting season. (No flash photography allowed!)
