Whare Kea Lodge offers a private, luxury retreat set on the shores of Lake Wanaka. The 6 room lakeside lodge with its expansive views over the lake and mountains has been transformed into an exclusive use villa, offering a private retreat for up to 12 guests. With its light-filled interior and spectacular vistas, Whare Kea provides perfect luxury accommodation for families or groups of friends wishing to soak up the splendour of the area in a private location.

We feel incredibly lucky to call this land home. 🌿

The connection many of our guests feel to the whenua (land) and te taiao (natural environment) here in Wānaka is powerful and lasting.

That’s why for every guest night at Whare Kea, we donate to the Love Wanaka Community Fund, supporting local projects that protect and restore this special corner of Aotearoa.

Love Wānaka currently has grants open, $5,000 to $10,000, for initiatives nurturing te taiao and local biodiversity. Applications close 6 August.

📍 A quiet moment in the mountains, now brought to life on canvas.⁠

We are delighted to share that our 2024 Artist in Residence, Sarah Tomasetti, is opening an exhibition in Melbourne showcasing the body of work developed during and after her time at Whare Kea Chalet.⁠
⁠
Perched at 1750 metres in the remote Albert Burn Saddle, the chalet offered Sarah rare stillness, a space to reflect, observe, and create. Using fresco skins and earth pigments collected from the landscape, she crafted delicate wayfinding forms that echo both ancestral memory and the ever-shifting alpine terrain.⁠

As Sarah describes:⁠
“I’ve worked with mountain ranges for over 20 years, but never before with this sense of stillness, or proximity to the slow rhythm of change. Whare Kea allowed me that gift.”⁠
⁠
This exhibition brings that quiet intensity to Melbourne, a poetic exploration of land, light and time.⁠
⁠
We are proud to have supported this chapter in Sarah’s journey.

Today's Autumn reflections at Whare Kea. We love this time of year and usually enjoy sharing it with our guests.

It has been wonderful to see many more of the iconic Tūī enjoying the Whare Kea grounds this year.

Not often spotted in Wānaka, many have been enjoying feeding on nectar from our native plants, especially our kōwhai and flax!
