Quite the contrast to this lovely family’s Singapore home. A 4 hour private experience that includes a hot tent, hot chocolate, roasting marshmallows, smoky soup, cheeses, and wood-fire baked sourdough from Base Camp Kitchen, building a snowman and an introduction to snowshoeing.

We call this particular adventure ‘Precious Silence’. Designed for good people with normal everyday fitness and no previous experience. It is every bit as special as it looks.

Real food prepared over fire - movement in a wild environment - campfire conversations - comfy camping - connection. This lovely family, separated by oceans until this wild reunion. They experienced it all during their time with us - rain, snow, sunshiney moments - I think the very real range of mountain weather truly added to their experience - and I can still hear the laughter coming from their fireside and cosy tent. Just wonderful.

In all, a 3 night experience for this family of five - 2 of those nights with Liz and her team at The Great Glenorchy Alpine Base Camp (and our popular wood-fired restaurant Base Camp Kitchen) - a private guided hike - with the middle night camping in the wild with some of Doug’s mountain crew making sure they enjoy their precious quality time together.

This is one of our 3 night packages and it’s called ‘River Bend’. We have many other experiences too, some shorter, some with heli, some without. A few shots from one our Polar Express experiences. Designed for small private groups with normal everyday fitness & no previous experience. Authentic old fashioned heavy canvas tents, cosy wood-fired tent heater, rugs, bean bags, delicious cast iron camp food prepared by one of the fire-cooks from Base Camp Kitchen right in front of you, amazingly snug bed rolls full of goose down and linen, wake to smell of fresh cowboy coffee on the fire, the whole host team camps nearby (and just far enough away), a special heated toilet tipi - a bit of a snow shoe and it all ads up to a pretty special ‘one of one’ adventure. The all inclusive package includes 2 nights at Base Camp and 1 night snow glamping (and lots more).

There’s a little bit of magic in this you know. In our increasingly digital lives where we can buy and do so much online - I wonder about the fate of the real thing. Anyway - in case it’s not obvious, we much prefer acoustic over electric - these people were getting to know each other and were strangers before they shared this fire-cooked dinner here at Base Camp Kitchen, the heart and soul of The Great Glenorchy Alpine Base Camp.
