BOIL WATER NOTICE REMAINS IN PLACE – GREATER GREYMOUTH WATER SUPPLY.

At 10am Wednesday 9 April 2025, following routine testing Grey District Council issued a BOIL WATER NOTICE FOR THE GREATER GREYMOUTH WATER SUPPLY.

The areas affected are Greymouth, Cobden, Blaketown, Boddytown, Karoro, South Beach, Paroa, Kaiata, Dobson, Taylorville, Stillwater, Runanga, Dunollie, Coal Creek, and Rapahoe.

All residents connected to this supply need to BOIL WATER UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.

This includes all water used for drinking, food preparation, brushing teeth, or preparing infant formula, which must be boiled until further notice.

Follow up testing has detected total coliforms in the water supply zones of Stillwater, Cobden, and Kaiata. In addition to the total coliforms, 1 E.coli has been detected in the Kaiata water supply zone.

The presence of total coliforms and E.coli in drinking water can suggest contamination of harmful bacteria and can be a risk to public health.

Sampling has been undertaken in all supply zones in the Greater Greymouth area, as well as the treatment plant, and we are expecting further results on Thursday 10 April 2025.

An investigation into the source of the contamination is underway.
As a result, the boil water notice remains in place for all areas connected to the Greater Greymouth Water Supply.

Council is continuing testing and monitoring and will provide further updates as more information becomes available.

We understand this situation is inconvenient for residents and businesses, and we sincerely thank the community for their patience. These measures are essential to protect public health and ensure the safety of our drinking water supply.

For more information, please contact Grey District Council on 03 769 8600.

If you have any symptoms or health concerns, please contact Healthline on 0800 611 116.
