1 day out from Raceday and we have just completed the 7.00am track reading - it has come in as a 4 (HEAVY 8 ) but we do expect it to come into a 7 if all the stars align and we don’t get too much more rain!

The rumour mill is telling us there are some pretty slick North Island trainers that are hoping it’s going to be wet for their charges-
… can the South Island contenders hold them out??… I guess we will find out tomorrow!

Enjoy the video below of a couple of Kevin Myers horses having a work out this morning.

Raceday is all set for Sunday 4.1.2026 and we are officially excited now! Track reading from this arvo has recorded a HEAVY 8 (we had Mother Nature throw everything at us this week, so keep an eye on those horses that like the sting out of it)
Things to know…
- Gates open at 10.30am, you can come across the bridge (although thats going to be very busy with horse floats and officials so we do prefer you to come in via Golf Links Road Kaiata)

- Free buses from our generous sponsors the Recreation Hotel at (times to be confirmed)
- Race 1: 12.30pm

Any questions, fire away.

For those asking, you can come set up on the Saturday, we just ask that gazebo’s are secured as we dont want them on the track with the horses about and be at least 1m back from the fence so everyone can get to the rail to watch the races.

Here’s a wee snippet of Jill doing our course review for Trackside this afternoon.Any questions - ask away. 🐎🐎🐎💰💰💰🌞🌞🌞

Well the committee guys & gals have been busy wee beavers this week, dodging showers and wind but things are starting to come together nicely.

Most people don’t get to see around our stable blocks so I had a wee wander about with the video.. it’s on Timelapse in case you were impressed at how fast I can run (giggle)

… stay tuned tonight for our food stall post, you won’t believe how delicious it all looks and lots of choice this year 🤤

Prep those picnic baskets and ice trays for this coming Sunday 4th January 2026… we’re going to start this year with a bang!!

The 1st track reading is in!!
After an insane amount of rain in the past 7 days (74mls) the track gave us a good reading today which will only improve with the wind and sun forecast.

For those that often ask I have attached the daily sheet that Jill (Club President) and I do for the readings what tell us how we are looking for race day, this consists of a metal dropper attached to a pole , we take 9 drops at different distances out from the rail every 100m round the track.

Our forecast for the 4th January 2026 is perfect and going to be a scorcher so dont forget your hat & sunscreen.

… more daily posts to come or feel free to ask any questions.

Regards Ange 🐎🌞👍🏼

Does your club/group want a generous donation?
Due to cancellations we now have 2 spots open on our race day 4.1.26
- Gates entry (6 people is ideal from 10-2)
- kids entertainment (all gear/ equipment supplied)

This would be ideal for a local sports team ie: netball, league club, community, church group etc.

With the added bonus of attending our fabulous Raceday.
If this is something you might like to help us out with please message the page.

Cheers from the GJC Team 🐎💰⭐️

Hi to all our racing fans out there… we are back!

So many of you ask about the things we do to make our track and course look so good on Raceday… well today we had Chris from Turf Aeration on site with his Verti-drainer.

Chris does all the race tracks in the South Island and has over 30 years experience, the reason for this is for the drainage and root structure of the grass as well as making it safer for the horses and jockeys.

Enjoy this wee video I got today, it was mesmerizing to watch- and the whole process will take him about 6 hrs to complete.

Greymouth Jockey Club is kicking off the 1st day of Racing for the galloping circuit and will be on Sunday 4th January 2026 (1st race is at @ 12:00pm)

We will have all our usual kids activities, Fashion in the Field, and this year we have some amazing Food Stalls - you will be spoilt for choice and I’ll post all the info over the next couple of days.

Good morning loyal race fans.

We have the stats in for our Raceday: 5.1.25
On course patronage was over 3500 people (we didn’t count the kids- so likely to be more) but it sure was an impressive crowd!

On-course turnover via tote operators was $89k
And drum roll please… Off-course turnover was $1.3 million!!

We can’t have these days without you guys so thanks again for the support, when we have days like this it keeps our ‘hat in the ring’.

We are going to do a membership drive for Greymouth Jockey Club 2026… its only $15 and you’ll get 2 x tickets for next years entry and regular updates. (Details to follow)

Today is Reefton Jockey Club’s turn and this is another absolutely fantastic day so make sure you tune in or even better, get up there and enjoy the day.

Attached below is ex- Greymouth trainer Mike McCann and Club committee member Michelle DeVries with their winner Sprocket Rocket

So once again- well done everyone for making our Raceday another great success.
Regards the GJC Team. 🐎🐎🐎
