Our goal is to ensure a safe, enjoyable and friendly environment for all. We are located centrally in Havelock, just a stone’s throw away from cafes, restaurants, museums, shops, art galleries and the renowned Sandford’s Mussel factory e

stablished alongside our scenic Havelock marina. Havelock is the gateway to the stunning Pelorus and Marlborough sounds and the Green-shell Mussel capital of the world. If you are out to experience and explore the adventurous outdoors Marlborough has to offer, Havelock provides the perfect playground. Whether you hike, bike, drive or prefer the water, Havelock is sure to fulfill any adventurers needs or desires.

Here at the Rutherford Backpackers we will continue to provide accommodation for everyone.
We are dedicated to providing services to our community and anyone visiting the area.
We have no room for discrimination.

We look forward to our summer season kicking off with the Te Araroa trail becoming one of the most popular trails in New Zealand.

Our backpackers is the perfect base for Te Araroa trail walkers to restock and rejuvenate before taking on the Richmond Alpine track, considered to be Te Araroa's most challenging track.

Bookings are available.
Walk-ins are welcome.
Food parcels can be sent through to our base.
Long term accommodation available.
