That forecast is serving up one last burst of autumn sunshine before winter officially arrives.

If you’re thinking about a last-minute escape, we still have:

And for Saturday night, the Himatangi Beach Cossie Club has crowd favourite band The Fog playing live. Just $10 a ticket, or free for club members.

Camping setups have definitely grown over the years… bigger tents, longer caravans, giant motorhomes, buses with awnings, outdoor kitchens, the works.

Every campground is different, and while your setup may fit perfectly at one park, it could be a squeeze at another.

Before you book:
• Check the full size of your setup, including drawbars, awnings, slide-outs, guy ropes, and extra vehicles
• Ask our team if you’re unsure what will fit best

A quick check beforehand can save a whole lot of campsite Tetris when you arrive.

✨ Tuesday Top Tip: Keep an Eye on the Sky

Winter at Hīmatangi Beach comes with a bonus feature… the chance to spot the Aurora Australis, also known as the Southern Lights.

With dark skies, an easy walk to the beach, and very little light pollution, we’re lucky to get some pretty incredible viewing opportunities here, especially around a new moon.

A few tips:
Clear, crisp nights are best
Winter means darkness arrives earlier
Local Facebook aurora groups are great for tracking conditions and alerts
Even if the aurora doesn’t show… the stars alone are worth the walk

Interesting watching the beach change too. After the wind from a few weeks ago and with no decent rain since, the entrance is already starting to build up that classic winter soft sand again.

NZ weather likes to keep things interesting… so it pays to have a backup.

If it turns from “bit drizzly” to properly miserable, don’t write the trip off.

Swap the tent for a cosy cabin or room
Keep the getaway, lose the soggy sleeping bag
Check availability… you might get lucky

Same trip, better outcome… sometimes all it takes is a roof.

Do not always trust the forecast.

We sit in a bit of a beach microclimate out here… which means it can be raining in town while we are dry as anything on the coast.

If you are on the fence, check conditions closer to the time. Better yet, have a look at our beach we**am and see for yourself.

Sometimes the best weekends are the ones you almost talked yourself out of.
