Fabulous, within walking distance to restaurants bakeries bars galleries beach. It’s worth driving out to the gorge.

Gorgeous property, beautifully designed, comfortable, clean, cosy and warm. Nice little touches throughout, downstairs there was a guest laundry which was well equipped with everything needed.

This was a lovely property just what we needed and in a good location for town. The cleaning staff were absolutely lovely and very friendly and helpful. We loved the modern feel to the place and appliances whilst paying homage to its historical past as a fire station. Highly recommend.

Will light your fire! Luxurious, so clever and comfy!

What’s not to love? What a fantastic place - SO much thought and attention to detail put into it and SO comfortable- best mattress and pillows we’ve had on this trip! Very modern and clean and comfortable and brilliant keeping with the theme!

Nicely presented and unusual in style. Well appointed with quality fittings and amenities. Perfect down to the tiniest detail, such as neatly arranged cutlery in the drawer. Lots of information provided eg re food and services nearby. Entry with code so much more convenient than keys. Can’t think of anything we didn’t like.

This is an ideal location, close to the beach, cafes and shops, and the apartment was beautifully decorated with quality amenities. Kerry and his team did everything possible to make our stay a memorable one. We couldn't recommend the Fire Station 🔥 highly enough.

Yesss!! We’re the favourite!!

Spent two nights in the Chief Shain studio, and literally said "wow" when we walked in. Spacious, modern, light-filled, spotless, thoughtfully equipped, and super cool 'on point' decoration and memorabilia. Great location for exploring the (also super cool and quirky) Hokitika town easily, on foot if desired. We found it utterly quiet, slept very well in the comfy bed. Oh, even as Canadians :) we often found NZ accommodation to be a bit chilly, especially the floors...not at all here, it was noticeably cozy, obviously well insulated!

While the hotel doesn't have a traditional 'reception', all the logistics - booking, arrival parking/entry/departure info was all clear and uncomplicated. We did briefly meet the owner one morning, and he enthusiastically provided in-depth local recommendations for our day. Looking back, this was one of our favourites of all the places we stayed on our trip - great value, too! I wouldn't hesitate to return.

Location, not far from the beach, shops etc. Loved the Quirky decor - former fire station, loved the history of the fire station.

An amazing stay!

We recently stayed at the Hokitika Fire Station. They were very easy to deal with from the booking process and during our stay, it is impossible to really describe the accommodation, it has high quality furnishing which caters to all your needs in a very themed unique building, an old fire station, we will be staying again next time we visit.
