Bring on the Summer. This time of year is especially rewarding for bird-lovers with nesting and chick-raising in full swing.

And Neil (host and resident contemporary New Zealand artist/sculptor) has made some impressive improvements to walking tracks and gardens for guests to enjoy.

Guests ask me about the art and relics throughout the lodge all the time. Many have been collected from our own travels.

These ornaments often inspire our guests to share their travel stories over a glass of wine at sunset or in a cosy fire-side chat after dinner. Hearing these stories is a real highlight.

We've been taking part in some critical conservation efforts that protect some of New Zealand’s most treasured species. One such species is the Great Crested Grebe, or Pūteketeke, a bird whose elegance and vulnerability have captured hearts across the country and abroad.

I had such a great time celebrating the 100 year Centenary of the Royal Forest and Bird Protection Society of New Zealand.

I have been so proud to work alongside other branch members of Forest and Bird for over 15 years. It was an honour to receive the prestigious Old Blue Award last year for exceptional service to conservation.

Reconnecting with familiar faces and meeting new people who also care about conservation was a pleasure.

Location is everything... we're so lucky to be situated perfectly between the Southern Alps and the Pacific Ocean.
