Goat Island Coastal Walkway
Looking for a stunning local walk while youβre in Leigh? The Goat Island Coastal Walkway is a must-do.
π Distance: 1.5km (one way)
β± Time: 45β60 minutes
π« Dogs not permitted
Start at the main Goat Island carpark, then follow the path up past the Auckland University Marine Laboratory. The track begins at the signpost on the right-hand side of the driveway.
From there, the gravel path winds along the clifftops, offering incredible views over Goat Island, Pakiri, and out to Little Barrier Island. As you continue, the track dips into a peaceful valley with beautiful remnants of coastal broadleaf forest before opening up to Tabletop Reef β where youβll be rewarded with sweeping views across the Hauraki Gulf and the Hen and Chicken Islands.
For those keen to explore further, an extended loop continues through farmland (via a kissing gate) along Matheson Bush Road and Cape Rodney Road, eventually linking back to the main track. Just be aware this section can be muddy and may include farm animals.
