This morning our intrepid group of wives who for the past twelve months have been knitting for charity, visited the Hope Church to give to them the benefit of their work. Isn't it a great day when we can help the communitee by uniting with them and providing help to all of those who are less fortunate. Our Lodge is now going to decide how much we will give to our group of wives so they can continue with this essential communittee work as they knit and natter. So, thank you Jean, Elaine, Sue, Helen, Jennie, Noeleen, Lizzie, and the many others who have helped during the last twelve months buy knitting and giving us bags of wool, unsolicited.

Well, here we are again, with a table full of jumpers, cardigans, hats, mittens, slippers all set to be given to the Hope Church. Some of the ladies were at it again on Tuesday so I managed to get a couple of photos to post before they start again in the new Masonic Year. As a Lodge, we are very proud of our wives and widows who regularly get together for their knit and natter sessions to produce these articles of clothing for charities, large and small. So, thank you Jean, Noeleen, Jenny, Helen, Elaine, Sue and the many others who support and encourage the work that they are doing. The good news is, they may be doing this again next year when the Lodge approves the funding.

What a great AP&I Show we had this year. We arrived there with a smaller display this year but we had two items which were well supported by the community. If you recall from my last post we had the blue quilt that we started to raffle at the Christmas Fair which we carried over to our Christmas Lodge meeting and then we drew the raffle at the AP&I Show. Well done to all of you who purchased a ticket which was won by a young lass whose name is Dawn. Down comes from Masterton but was staying at Waitarere Beach for the holidays. Thank you to Mrs. Sue McEwan for her kind donation of the Quilt and to you all who are kind supporters. Our Lodge raised $510.00 for our Charity account which will come in real handy. On the right of the second picture is a new Queen size Quilt that we are raffling which we will have at the Medieval Market and carry through to our Installation this year.

And then we agreed with the Ohau Community Hall to paint the meeting room and the Kitchen. So Sunday we went down there and applied undercoat to the two room and put the topcoat on yesterday. They both looked great after we had finished which is timely as they celebrate 125 years in November. Great fun doing it and we added funds to our charity account.

What a great feeling it is when you help others. Responding to a request from our Div. Grand Almoner for assistance at a Special Olympics Swimming event, our Lodge provided eight of our members to assist. They were busy during the day assisting with time keeping and generally making things happen. Well done 464.

Monday night was a great night for our Lodge where we got to celebrate the 60th anniversary with W Bro Graham Morow-Griffin who had been initiated into Lodge Levin on the 26th of July 1965 and transferred over to the United Horowhenua Lodge No 464 when it was constituted in May 1999. It was a great turnout of members and their wives to witness the presentation to Graham of his 60-year bar and lapel pin in our Lodge room by our Div. Grand Master RW Bro Mick Turner. Prior to our meeting, our Brethren and their wives sat down to a lovely catered meal and returned for dessert following the presentation. We look forward to our next 60-year presentation in October this year followed by one mid next year.

Yesterday in the company of a couple of wives we went down to Taitoko School Levin to present to them a number of bags of knitted slippers, fingerless gloves, some scarves and some beanies that our wives had knitted for the children. Our Masonic Lodge was more than happy to sponsor them even though we were unsure of how for this would go and the results have been wonderful to see. The school had a special assembly for the presentation and there were three classes of little one who were so enthusiastic that it bought to the fore the old saying, "it is better to give than to receive". There will be many more of these presentations as this morning, I was told of a large amount will possibly be donated to us in the coming weeks and that, coupled with the wool that our wives still have, will keep them going for some time. The best part of all this is the way that our Lodge is interacting with and within our community.

For those of you who are following our intrepid group of knitters, they have started to give some away to the local Maternity ward to assist those new mums who do have a lot behind them. We wish them all the best and we hope our contribution has been worth it. Well done ladies, you do yourselves and our Lodge proud.

Once more the ladies of our Lodge have done us proud. Some of our wives talked to me at the start of the year as for the past two years they had been knitting for charity. They asked if we could give them assistance and so having considered the request, in conjunction with the Grand Charity, we provided them with $1000.00 to spend on wool and yarn. Yesterday, they put on a display of all of their knitting and I managed to get a couple of photos.
There were gloves and mittens and jumpers (jerseys for you kiwis) and beanies and blankets and knee rugs and, and, and.
It is the intention of the group that smaller items for prem babies and newly born children be presented to the local maternity ward shortly followed by a small local school with knitted slippers and mittens.
Not bad for a group of up to seven in only four months. You do our Lodge proud Ladies.
