Another incredible shot from our stargazing guide, Taichi!

Captured from the northern side of Lake Pukaki, this image was exposed for 6,000 seconds, or 100 minutes, revealing the beautiful trails of stars as they appear to circle above Aoraki/Mount Cook.

While it may look as though the night sky is spinning around us, it is actually the Earth rotating beneath the stars that creates this effect. Star trails can be seen from anywhere on Earth, but their angle and direction change depending on where in the world you’re standing.

A beautiful reminder that even when the night sky appears still, our planet is always moving. ✨🌏

A clear night in Aoraki / Mount Cook, with the only natural light coming from the stars above. Once your eyes fully adapt to the darkness, you’ll be surprised by just how bright starlight can be, casting enough light onto the ground to see what’s around you, especially when the Milky Way core is visible 🌌

Look closely and you might spot the kiwi standing upright in the sky, a local asterism known as the Galactic Kiwi. Can you see it?

And that red light? It’s the only artificial light in the area, from one of our stargazing guides enjoying the view. Red light is used during night sky observation because it has far less impact on our night vision than white light.

💡 Did you know? White light causes our pupils to constrict, making it harder for our eyes to stay fully adapted to the dark.

Today marks the first day of spring, and the first day of Glacier Explorers for the season.

After a huge basal calving event on Tasman Lake last month, the lake is now covered in ice, making for a very interesting start to the season for our team.

It’s not every day you get to see the lake looking like this, and we’re excited to see how it changes over the coming weeks.

We can’t wait to welcome guests back onto Tasman Lake.

Today we had the incredible privilege of hosting the official opening function for the new Ho**er Valley Bridge before joining guests on the walk to this impressive new landmark in Aoraki / Mount Cook National Park.

It was a special occasion to stand alongside the many people whose vision, skill and hard work have brought this project to life. From planning and engineering through to construction, an enormous amount of dedication has gone into creating an asset that will be enjoyed by generations of visitors from around the world.

Congratulations and thank you to everyone involved in delivering this remarkable project. We were honoured to play a small part in today's celebrations and look forward to welcoming visitors to experience one of New Zealand's most iconic walks.

It’s the news you’ve all been waiting for… 💙

The iconic Ho**er Valley Track will reopen from 3pm on 28 July and we couldn’t be more excited to welcome you back.

The brand-new Ho**er Valley Bridge is truly spectacular, spanning 189 meters, more than double the length of the previous bridge.

A huge congratulations to our friends at Department of Conservation for delivering such an incredible project and enhancing one of Aotearoa’s most loved walking experiences.

Your base for exploring Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park just got even better.
