Wow, itโ€™s somehow nearly that time of year again! ๐Ÿ“ฃ

Sunday, 5 April is the end of daylight saving ๐Ÿ‘‹โ˜€๏ธ๐Ÿ’พ That means it's also time for another six-monthly test of the tsunami siren network in Northland coastal communities.

The sirens will sound once at 10 am for around two minutes and will be monitored for any faults.

The sirens will emitting the familiar siren tone followed by a test voice warning message about the threat and any action required.

Regular testing helps ensure the system can respond effectively if needed and raises awareness of Northlandโ€™s tsunami risk.

You can check out whether you live, work or play in a tsunami evacuation zone, and plan the quickest route to safety, using the interactive maps here: https://www.nrc.govt.nz/evacuationzones

Golden Clams.. we dont want them in our lakes n streams..

900 juvenile invasive gold clams in a vial the size of your thumb ๐Ÿ‘Ž

๐Ÿ‘ฝ The vile species, which overtake lakes and alter the habitats of native species, start off life sand grain sized and are virtually impossible to detect without a microscope.

This vial of 900 was collected from Bobโ€™s Landing in the Waikato, which is ground zero for their New Zealand invasion.

Since then, theyโ€™ve been detected in Lake Rotomanu and Lake Maraetai ๐Ÿ‘ฝ

๐Ÿ”Ž Being virtually undetectable is how the invasive gold clam (๐˜Š๐˜ฐ๐˜ณ๐˜ฃ๐˜ช๐˜ค๐˜ถ๐˜ญ๐˜ข ๐˜ง๐˜ญ๐˜ถ๐˜ฎ๐˜ช๐˜ฏ๐˜ฆ๐˜ข) hitchhike. It allows them to stick to boating equipment and clothing, hitching a ride with you to other waterways ๐Ÿš—

๐Ÿ‘ฝ Their mission in life is simple ๐Ÿ‘‰ grow to an adult size clam (roughly 2-5cm), produce up to 70,000 babies per year, and overtake our lakes.

๐Ÿ’ช But our scientists and a team of detector dogs have other ideas ๐Ÿถ
