Hi Everyone. It is with a wee bit of sadness that Jules and I announce that Barn Seven Matakana has been sold. We have loved our time hosting some fantastic people but we have decided to move to the Waikato for purely personal reasons.

The good news is that the new owners are going to carry on running Barn Seven as a Boutique Accommodation and it will be business as usual. They are great people and I am confident that they will continue what we have started.

We will look forward to visiting the area and staying at Barn Seven in the future as guests. We have made great friends both in the community and with guests and will certainly keep in touch.

Cheers

Greg and Jules

A couple of cool events around here for the diary and to get the running shoes out for.

A good warm up event is the Omaha Classic fun run on the 28th March 2015. This is a 'little' fundraiser for the Matakana Primary School that has taken on a life of its own and this year even has electronic timing. There is a 10km, 5km and 2km kids dash running events and an 8km walk. www.omahaclassic.co.nz .

The other event, which is new to the area and very cool, is the Tawharanui Coastal Challenge on the 25th April 2015. The big one is a 33km run starting at Snells Beach, swimming across Sandspit, around the Tawharanui Peninsula and finishing at Omaha! There are also 6km, 12km, 17km and 22km options. www.coastalchallengeseries.co.nz .

The Omaha Classic Run/Walk event will be held in picturesque Omaha Beach, just 50 minutes from Auckland City, on Saturday the 28th March 2015. Come and experience the beauty of Omaha Beach and support this annual fundraiser for Matakana School.

Huge week for Barn Seven Matakana this week with groups in every night of the week. Definitely the biggest week we have had! Have met some very cool people who we look forward to seeing again.

Matakana continues to attract huge crowds who are enjoying great places like The Matakana Village Pub, Matakana Market Kitchen, the strawberry ice cream caravan, OOB, The Farmers Market, The Indie Market and the great beaches close by.

For those looking for a fitness goal, watch out for a post soon on an event coming to Tawharanui / Omaha that we are planning to enter in April.

Accomodation in Matakana, New Zealand

Thanks to The Matakana Pub for an excellent meal and lovely wine tonight with the owners of local accommodation. The Matakana Pub does not need selling as it is a destination in itself when coming to Matakana but the food tonight was outstanding. They were saying that they will be having live bands on Saturday nights throughout summer and on Friday nights later on in the summer. We're not talking loud full bands but the smaller bands that play whatever the mood dictates. I can see many a night spent here over summer, as well as our guests!

We are not going to get into too much self promotion but thought it worthy to share our first two reviews on www.holidayshouses.co.nz which we are pretty chuffed with! (Note: we did not pay anyone nor are they friends of ours. These are genuine guests.)

"Four of us stayed at Barn Seven over Anzac weekend and fell completely in love with the place! We didn't meet Greg but Julie was so lovely and has done an amazing job with this accommodation; the rooms had everything we needed and have been furnished so beautifully. The breakfast that was supplied on the first day was absolutely delicious too and included fresh fruit and local yoghurt. Julie also gave us a few tips on where to go to eat and when the local markets were on. Staying at Barn Seven really made our visit to Matakana a memorable one; we'll definitely be back!"

"This is the nicest self contained b&b, we've stayed in whilst in NZ. The owners are lovely and very helpful. Extremely clean and tidy. Couldn't recommended barn seven enough."
