We are magnificently located within walking distance to the beautiful shores of Mount Maunganui Beach, voted the best beach in New Zealand! We offer affordable accommodation for one

night stays or weekly boarders looking for work. The friendly team at Pacific Coast Lodge are able to give genuine advice and offer great deals on the range of activities and adventures to help you make the most of your stay in Mount Maunganui, ensuring that you experience the best that the Bay of Plenty has to offer – anything from swimming with Dolphins, amazing walks & hot pools, to deep sea fishing, kayaking & surfing. We are the only hostel in Mount Maunganui that actively assists you in finding work! Anything from fruit picking and orchard work, to factory and labouring jobs – we have people calling us daily for workers! The hostel is well established and provides loads of the comforts you crave from a Backpackers. We have a variety of shared facility rooms to enjoy, with a huge communal kitchen (great for large groups!) with free tea/coffee/herbs/spices, an outdoor courtyard with BBQ's free to use, our very own games and reading room waiting for you to challenge us to a game of Table Tennis or have a jam on our guitars, along with a separate TV Lounge room upstairs kitted out with over 2000 movies on our media player. And if that isn't enough, we are happy to provide you with free surfboards to use so you can enjoy the sunshine and catch a few waves! Groups are our specialty – having successfully hosted birthday celebrations, stag/hens nights, entire schools, and sports tournaments. We go out of our way to customise your requirements and can organise breakfasts, day tours or team building activities so it's one less thing to worry about! This week we said bye (for now) to one of the most legendary people in PCL history!
Nils has a long storyline with us. He first arrived last year as a guest for the kiwi season. From being just a nice, polite guest (as a good german is!), he became our first-ever official Ping Pong Champing, van driver and joined the team as a Night Warden.
More than a a great addition to the team, Nils turned into a loyal friend and a huge part of PCL family… he became the guy you could count on, for literally anything. Need a cleaner? Nils! Reception covered? Nils! A shoulder to cry on? Nils was there. Someone to win at ping pong (sorry Alfie)? Unfortunately, also Nils. What a legend! The man does it all! (Not even mentioning all the unbelievable tasty baked cakes and goodies).
Honestly, will be hard to get used to this place without Nils here, but this is a well deserved rest - enjoy your time with family, eat lots of pretzels (and german tofu!) and come back soon for new adventures (and probably a few more jobs we’ll ask pretty please and somehow convince you to do!).
Thanks for being amazing! We love you, Nils!

Imagine this…
You wake up with the sun, grab one of our free surfboards or bodyboards and head to the beach for a morning surf. Stop by one of our local cafés for a warm drink, come back to the hostel for a hot shower, relax with friends, then get ready for work in one of the many local businesses around town. Cafés, restaurants, bars, supermarkets, retail shops and more are always looking for staff in Mount Maunganui.
We assist our guests finding work and have an onsite job board with jobs being called in daily. Stay, play, work.
